If you say his name three times, he pops up to sell you insurance.

His name pops up all over the place, so I tought we could have a "weinke" repository.

Anyway, this year I thought he was good and bad.

The good was I thought he made good decisions and reads on where to throw the football, and he showed he still had a good live arm.

The bad is a 54.5 percent completion rate. Not great. A lot of overly cautious or just plain poor execution. Good reads, bad throws. And now he has a bad habit of holding on to the ball forever. 8 sacks is far too many in what was like one game. Like the ghost of Steve B got into him. :)

And if you take Colbert off the team, his stats do look abysmal without those deep balls.

So I'm caught in the middle. To my eyes he's shown some improvement, but their are reoccuring problems. Now, perhaps the offense can be worked around some of these things if Jake goes down for an extended period. But he's still third string, so some of these problems may be the reason. Keeping him and Peete when Both have a lot of concerns and limitations, for the money they both get, thats a lot.

I know why they are keeping him, the Fasani situation that they'd rather not be in.

I don't think he has much in the way of trade value, really. Preseason heroics don't garner much.

So, I dunno. I might have kept the youngster if I didn't have enough confidence in Chris to make him second string.

I've never been crazy over Weinke, but you've got to consider that alot of that time he was being covered by 2nd string O-line guys, and even when he had some so-called starters in there, the protection wasn't wonderful. Don't get me wrong, I agree he needs to work on his pocket mentality, knowing when to get rid of it, etc.

if it were not for weinke we wouldn't have anything to argue over.

Yeah held the ball way too long. Don't know why. Biggest beef I had with Peete, and with Beuerlein in 2000.
The arm was live, and accurate. But he wasn't efficient enough. If he's hitting 60%, maybe he wouldn't be the bane of this team's existence.

Wasn't as good as 2003's preseason, no. Not by a distance.

Good Lord yes. There were times where I was pretty sure I had time to drive to the stadium (including away games) run out to the field and tell him he needed to get rid of the ball because he was about to get sacked.

Don't look at the individual stats. Look at team stats with him in. Things like percentage of drives that were 3 and out. Percentage of plays that resulted in losses. Most leaders in individual stats in the pre-season are either unemployed or PS.

Weinke's gotta be getting close to the end of his contract. I think he's gone after this year, especially with RR having a good showing this offseason.

I think he has one more after this year. I think anybody who starts a thread like this needs to be dubbed a "Weinker". The Aussie's and Brits will be able to get the right pronunciation.

Yep. Anyone who doesn't immediately think with the mob on this one should immediately be crucified. :xyzthumbs
