Mock Draft
#1) Houston Texans:
What I would do – If P.R. wasn’t a factor then I’d trade down and take Ferguson, but since it is, you have to take Bush.
Trade up – Can’t.
Trade down – Trading down for Ferguson or even Justice (for a boatload of picks) would make sense, but it’s hard to figure out where Ferguson will be available, so that makes this scenario even more unlikely.
Likely selection – Reggie Bush.
#2) New Orleans Saints:
What I would do – Take D’Brickashaw Ferguson.
Trade up – They don’t need Reggie Bush.
Trade down – They have a number of holes that could be addressed by adding multiple first day picks. Moving down for A.J. Hawk would be a good strategy considering the trash they have at LB.
Likely selection – D’Brickashaw Ferguson.
#3) Tennessee Titans:
What I would do – Take Matt Leinart and thank my lucky stars.
Trade up – They could move up to make sure they get Leinart or they could even use Bush.
Trade down – Another team with multiple holes, Tennessee could move down to rebuild the offensive line or improve the secondary.
Likely selection – Matt Leinart.
#4) New York Jets:
What I would do – Take Ferguson if he’s there, otherwise trade down. Mario Williams would be fine, but they can get someone like Hali in the second round. They have an LDE in Shaun Ellis.
Trade up – Moving up to get Leinart would allow them to cut their losses with Pennington.
Trade down – Moving down for A.J. Hawk or Vernon Davis would help as much as anyone they could get at #4 unless Ferguson is there.
Likely selection – Mario Williams.
#5) Green Bay Packers:
What I would do – Take Haloti Ngata. Hawk would help and they did just add Ryan Pickett, but Ngata would give them a physical presence they won’t have in the middle unless Grady Jackson comes down on his salary demands.
Trade up – They’re set at tackle, so moving up wouldn’t make a lot of sense.
Trade down – They need to get interior offensive linemen and stockpiling multiple first day picks would allow them to rebuild the line.
Likely selection – A.J. Hawk.
#6) San Francisco 49ers:
What I would do – I’m torn between taking Hawk and having Ngata anchor the middle at nosetackle.
Trade up – Moving up for Ferguson would greatly increase the quality of their line.
Trade down – They need help practically everywhere on defense. If Denver will give up both of their firsts to move up, that would be a no-brainer.
Likely selection – Trade down with Denver, who takes Vernon Davis.
#7) Oakland Raiders:
What I would do – I’d trade whatever it took to get Matt Leinart. Brooks is a decent stopgap, but Leinart can play right away and do extremely well with those weapons.
Trade up – They could move up to get Leinart or Mario Williams.
Trade down – They don’t have a lot of obvious needs, although they could get one of the quarterbacks later.
Likely selection – Vernon Davis makes too much sense for Al Davis, but if he isn’t there, I suppose Vince Young is likely.
#8) Buffalo Bills:
What I would do – Take Winston Justice. They don’t have the linebackers to stop the run, and Bunkley wouldn’t help them much there either, but they can get a space eater like Ngata later or at least do better than what they could get at OT.
Trade up – They could move up to make sure they Ngata, or to take a shot at getting Ferguson.
Trade down – They need a lot of help on the offensive line and could get it by accumulating picks.
Likely selection – Haloti Ngata.
#9) Detroit Lions:
What I would do – I’d take Winston Justice, but they just gave Backus an absurd amount of money.
Trade up – Moving up for Matt Leinart would make a lot of sense.
Trade down – They have multiple holes in the secondary and at linebacker.
Likely selection – Michael Huff makes too much sense.
#10) Arizona Cardinals:
What I would do – Leonard Davis is not a left tackle, but Winston Justice could be.
Trade up – Moving up for Hawk or Williams would give them the defensive playmaker they lack.
Trade down – They need to completely rebuild the offensive line.
Likely selection – Winston Justice.
#11) St. Louis Rams:
What I would do – I would move down and take as many defensive backs as I could.
Trade up – Moving up Huff would make some sense.
Trade down – They could reach on Jimmy Williams or Antonio Cromartie where they are, but if they moved down, they could take one of those guys and perhaps get a safety in the second or third round.
Likely selection – Jimmy Williams.
#12) Cleveland Browns:
What I would do – This is high for a 3-4 DE, but it’s hard to justify passing on Bunkley here.
Trade up – Getting Justice would help their line immensely, but I don’t see it happening.
Trade down – Moving down a bit would allow them to gain a pick and still take Manny Lawson as a 3-4 OLB.
Likely selection – Brodrick Bunkley.
#13) Baltimore Ravens:
What I would do – This is one of the hardest spots for me to read. Nothing really fits.
Trade up – Moving up for Ngata would fill the massive hole left by Kemoeatu, or they could go after Justice.
Trade down – They need help at many spots along their front seven.
Likely selection – I don’t have the foggiest idea, but I’ll guess and say Ernie Sims.
#14) Philadelphia:
What I would do – Take Chad Jackson and hope he doesn’t bust like every other Florida receiver.
Trade up – Going up after Justice would make a fair amount of sense.
Trade down – Moving down could put them in a better spot to take one of the remaining defensive ends.
Likely selection – Chad Jackson.
#15) Denver Broncos:
What I would do – If it’s their pick, they could use more talent on either line, or address their secondary.
Trade up – I already have them going up for Vernon Davis.
Trade down – None of the defensive ends fit here, but it’s hard to see them moving down when they already have another first.
Likely selection – For either team, Antonio Cromartie.
#16) Miami Dolphins:
What I would do – I’d take Tye Hill, who looks like a young Sam Madison.
Trade up – They don’t have ammunition to move up after the Culpepper trade.
Trade down – They could stockpile more picks to get more secondary help, but they’d be crazy to pass up the talent they could get at #16.
Likely selection – Tye Hill.
#17) Minnesota Vikings:
What I would do – I’d take DeAngelo Williams, but I imagine they’d be more likely to go with the hometown product to win back some fans.
Trade up – They could move up to make sure they get Cutler, but I think he’ll fall.
Trade down – They have too many good options here to trade down.
Likely selection – Jay Cutler.
#18) Dallas Cowboys:
What I would do – Take Manny Lawson and have a ridiculous set of OLBs.
Trade up – No real reason to move up.
Trade down – Sliding a bit to grab a tackle would make some sense, but they’re likely to go in the next few picks anyway.
Likely selection – Manny Lawson.
#19) San Diego Chargers:
What I would do – Trade up to get Tye Hill, otherwise take Santonio Holmes.
Trade up – They probably can’t get one of the premium DBs at #19.
Trade down – They need offensive line help, which would be a better fit towards the end of the frame.
Likely selection – Eric Winston sucks, but he’d still be an upgrade over Leander Jordan.
#20) Kansas City Chiefs:
What I would do – Move out of this spot.
Trade up – They could move up to get Cutler.
Trade down – They could move down and get a space eater at DT or youth along the offensive line.
Likely selection – Mathias Kiwanuka is the only need player who makes sense.
#21) New England Patriots:
What I would do – I’d take DeAngelo Williams.
Trade up – Moving up to get one of the premium corners would make sense.
Trade down – They could drop to get in better position for one of the offensive linemen.
Likely selection – Donte Whitner, since the secondary must be addressed.
#22) Denver Broncos:
What I would do – If it’s their pick and they went DB with #15, I’d address the defensive line here.
Trade up – I have them moving up for Vernon Davis.
Trade down – Moving down wouldn’t make a lot of sense.

What I would do – I’d do something to improve their pass rush.
Trade up – They can probably stay where they are and get a quality DE.
Trade down – Moving down and then taking an interior lineman like Joseph or Mangold would be sensible.
Likely selection – Tamba Hali.

What I would do – Linebacker is too obvious a need.
Trade up – Unless Ernie Sims slips more than expected, they don’t really need to move up.
Trade down – Sliding a bit more to get one of the free safeties would be acceptable.

What I would do – I would take Davin Joseph, but they just paid a bunch of money to Garza, so that’s unlikely.
