WITHERSPOON THE WORD: Word is the Philadelphia Eagles, who certainly need some major rebuilding after a disastrous season, are doing a lot of homework on Panthers linebacker Will Witherspoon.
He can become a free agent in March. The Panthers are going to make a serious effort to re-sign Witherspoon before then, but the prospect of the Eagles and other teams pushing up the price tag may prompt him to test the market.

he will definately be sought after by philly as well as others. the "major rebuilding" is a misnomer of sorts when refering to the eagles. they will seek, either through FA or the draft or both, some help at LB and DT for sure but thats about it for their defense. their has been some question about dawkins at S and they may move a little there also. :twocents:

don't the iggles have about 30 mil in cap space or something crazy like that?

Where'd you copy and paste that analysis?

We need to sign Spoon. If for no other reason it will kill me watching Spoon play somewhere else while Morgan (fairchild) is on the bench with a bruised labia.

I think we need to bring back Mcree too. He has played well enough to get a long term deal at a modest price.

Yeah, I was really getting quite fond of the Spoon/Draft combo out there.

I obviously hated to see us extend The Pussy, but we can live without Witherspoon. I admire his effort and he has certainly improved as a linebacker over the last couple of years, but I wouldn't want to overpay him either.

Panthers | Witherspoon wants to be back in 2006
Thu, 12 Jan 2006 18:13:00 -0800

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers LB Will Witherspoon wants to be with the team in 2006, despite the fact the team hasn't yet signed him to a long-term contract extension. Witherspoon becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and talks on a new deal have been slow. Witherspoon is believed to be interested in money equivalent to the contract signed by his teammate, LB Dan Morgan.
