WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) – Two boys high school basketball teams will pay the price for a fight that broke out during their game last week.

Atkins was leading Reidsville 41-38 in the third quarter when chaon ensued. School officials won't say which player started the fight. But the punishment has been swift and decisive.

Four Reidsville players have been suspended for the rest of the season by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. In addition, six players are suspended for two games and the school has been fined $1,000.

The association also issued two-game suspensions for seven Atkins players who left the bench during the fight. The suspensions were doubled by Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.

In addition, one Atkins player was suspended from school for throwing a punch.

"Even though there was no harm intended," said Atkins coach Robert Moore, "still you have to suffer consequences."

Both schools have video of the fight, but would not release it to FOX8 News. Officials said the video was used to determine the suspensions.

Reidsville High School principal denied our request for an interview, but Jonathan Craig said about the fight "it better not happen again."
