07 Oline better than average?

Our Oline allowed 29 sacks and 22 hits in 564 pass attempts or about 9% of the time.
Best in the league was New Orleans allowing on 9 sakck and 34 hits which is 6.1% of the time
Minnesota was the worst allowing the QB to get hit or sacked 17.2% of the time.
Looks like we ranked 7th overall.

Alot of that had to do with NO style of play, the quick release didn't allow time, I'd guess.

But yeah, I always thought we'd have done alot better last year with a decent QB in the game. If we can improve the run game, via linemen or runners, I'd say we've done extremely well on paper.

I don't think they did a bad job at all as far as pass blocking. Run blocking was the problem.

pass blocking inside wasn't very good. Each of the starters gave up 4 sacks or more, and that includes guys who didn't finish the season. I wish I could look up where we gave up sacks right now, but I want to say we gave up at least 14 sacks inside. Wharton finished with 9, and Gross 3. The Titans game was an obvious exception, but I think we've all made our opinions known on that too.

But, we weren't that good at run blocking, and if we can keep the above statistics somewhat within range, have a bruising RG, and not be overpowered at LG and C while keeping athleticism and overall blocking up, I think the line's in good shape. That would, of course, also likely include a tackle pick in the 1st or a G/T pick in the 2nd like Nicks, I really don't like the idea of using Hangartner or Brown as our LG.

Assuming we don't draft a RB in the 1st will DW be just as effective with the much larger O-lineman in front of him. Kalil has shown the ability to get to the 2nd level and knock a LB or safety over, but will someone like Vincent and Wharton give DW the lanes to break off big plays. Or are we more looking to get that 4-5 yards per play?
I'm of the opinion he's talented enough to play behind any line I'm just curious as to what you guys think.

I agree. That Jacksonville game was our worst loss of the season, but there were a few times when Vinny had about 6 seconds to throw the ball in that game, but still couldn't complete a pass... and I don't think the Jags had a sack until late in the game when we were trying to throw on every down.

Run blocking must be the priority this year, which seems to be the case when you look at what they're doing right now.
