The Ottawa Senators are making a pitch for Detroit Red Wings goaltender Dominik Hasek and Senators general manager John Muckler is in serious talks with his agent, Rich Winter, according to a report in the Calgary Sun.
An NHL source, speaking on condition of anonymity, cautioned that the deal is not done but that Hasek may be in Ottawa this weekend.
"Dominik Hasek wants to come back and Ottawa might be the right fit for him," the source told the newspaper.
It is believed the Senators have looked at Hasek's medical records to make sure he's fully recovered from the groin surgery he had in May. Indications are Hasek is feeling good, according to the Sun. His surgery was a success and he's hired a personal trainer in the Czech Republic.
Hasek, 39, dressed for only 14 games with the Red Wings last season and was forced to leave the team midway through the season with chronic groin problems. He finished with an 8-3-0 record, a 2.21 GAA and a .907 save percentage.

he didn't play that bad until he got hurt this past year. seems like he should have toughed it out and played with it. Cujo was taking contisone shots in his ankle because of an injury and he played it.

Yep... you're making my point for me. 14 games is all.. $3M for it too. Yea, thanks for giving 3M back, but damn... 4.6M / game is quite the racket. No wonder we'll have a lockout this season.

Hasek didn't do anything to the Wings that he hadn't done to the Sabres before.
