I went and got the lens and a 420EX flash. BOth are a must have. After I picked them up I went to the park and took a few pics. The lens got right up close with the critters.

Nope. The day I get jealous over a camera is the day I shoot myself.

Julia, after careful consideration, I have decided to unload my ENTIRE Nikon setup for a Canon 20D and a couple lenses and flash.

    I have:
    • Nikon F100
    • 24-120mm lens
    • 70-300mm lens
    • 35-70 lens
    • SB-28 flash
    • MB-15 power pack with vertical camera grip
    • SC-17 remote flash cord
    • Stroboframe flash bracket
    • Lumiquest flash bounce
    • On-flash soft box
    • Magic Lantern Guide for F100 (a must have tutorial)
    • Remote shutter release
    • Original box, manual and compact reference card
All that and and a great Tamrac camera bag!

I am not sure how much I can get for all of this, being a 35mm film camera and all, but I am thinking of starting the bidding at $1500 on Ebay.

Event Images in Matthews (the location photography company I worked at for 4 years) now shoots exclusively with all Canon 20Ds. We started with Kodak/Nikon DCS 620s, 2MP digital cameras built on the top-of-the-line Nikon F5 which originally sold for around $20,000. We stepped up to the DCS 660, only different from the 620 by being 6MP, and cost around $15,000.

I believe EI is still paying on the original cameras, even after buying 5 Canon 20Ds with a flash and two lenses each, totalling $10,000 the very day they were put on the market. I used the 20D for about a month before moving to the beach and I loved it. Granted, the controls took some getting used to, but after an hour of playing with it, I felt right at home.

The image quality and color straight off the memory card is far superior to the Nikon cameras. This was quite a time saver for the in-house color editors who had been spending hours on end adjusting the color from the Nikon images. With the Canons, we could go right out of the camera to print with adding graphics being the only step in between.

edit: sorry, Julia, you originally said it was just a 55 lens and I just noticed you posted the listing from sams that stated it was a 18-55. My bad. I would recommend for anyone with $1500 to get to sams and get this camera... just leave one for me!

Advantages over Nikon D70 - 8MP vs 6MP, faster shooting with bigger and faster buffer for image recording (great for sports), faster focusing (canons have always been superior in this area), best color and clarity for the money, accepts all Canon EF lenses and flashes (Nikon falls short in this area - they have to create a new flash for each new camera they put out). Nikon has a serious problem with the pre-flash on the D70 (with the SB600 or SB800 flash) causing people to blink and have their eyes closed in photos. The preflash is necessary for flash metering. Apparently Canon has a light on the camera body that senses distance for flash output instead of needing an irritating preflash.

Julia, and anyone else who has a 20D, please post some pics and let me know how the flash works and if you have any trouble with blinking. :)
