WITN TV, the official station of the ECU Pirates, announced a statewide telecast of the ECU-UNC football game on Saturday, October 11, 2003 beginning at 3:30. WITN will produce and distribute the game. Affiliated stations include WRAL-TV in Raleigh, WXII-TV in Winston-Salem, WJZY-TV in Charlotte, WECT-TV in Wilmington, WBSC in Greenville-Spartansburg-Asheville and WITN in eastern North Carolina.
Both teams got off to inauspicious strts in their openers, when Florida State shut out the Tar Heels 37-0 and Cincinnati pounded ECU 40-3. Thise games underlined the unlikelihood of the game being telivised on a national outlet.
