I originally met Johnny and his dog Ghost on Interstate 40 on September 11 2008. I stopped and talked to him for a few minutes. He is a Vietnam War Veteran. He served 1966-67. He is looking for a ride to the Miami, Fl area to meet up with his son. I'm in a company truck that does not allow riders so I helped him best I could, wished him good luck and I left expecting never to see him again. I assumed somebody would help him get to his destination. That was fifteen days ago. To my amazement, two weeks later I'm driving down the same highway and Johnny and Ghost are sitting in the same exact location on Intestate 40. I stop again and talk to him some more and it turns out he has been sitting there since September 1st, that now totals 26 days he has been trying to get a ride towards Miami, Fl. While we were talking, another Vietnam Veteran stops. Wayne Shearer (Shown in Picture 3 in the Roads Homeless set to your right). He also could not believe that Johnny who served our country was sitting there all that time. He talked to Johnny for awhile , helped him out best he could and said he would contact his VFW. Johnny stated to me that he thinks that his wheel chair is part of the problem with him not being able to get a ride. If anybody can help him get to Miami, maybe a trucker, a Veteran, Greyhound... anybody, because this man who served his country needs to get off that highway. He sits there on the on ramp during the day and goes behind the guardrail at night under the overpass. He is located on Interstate 40 eastbound in Moriarty, New Mexico N 35.00764 W 106.03774. Johnny said the local police check on him daily so I guess that would be the best way to verify he is still there. Thanks for your time, Jim

Been in that area tons of times, but not recently.

Pretty much all of the interstates are, except in towns and cities.

Not any interstates I've been on, everything around here is 70 max

It doesn't really, I just want 75 around here so I can go 80.

If anything, speed limits need to be reduced to conserve fuel.

Well, I got a Honda that gets 42 mpg HIghway going 70,

I wouldn't have any objection to getting rid of Nascar to save gas.
