    Trai Essex - Steelers

    Taken from cbs.sportsline:

    ANALYSIS

Positives … Has a big frame with wide hips, big bubble, thick thighs … Has adequate initial quickness off the snap … Shows the ability to pull and trap … Athletic enough to make adjustments on linebackers working in the second level … Has enough speed to get down field … Adequate run blocker who is more of a finesse type, but can turn with some sustain ability … Has decent lateral agility and kick slide in his pass set … Shows good arm extension to make reach blocks.

Negatives … Needs to show better dedication to nutrition and conditioning … Came into the program as a tight end, but basically ate himself out of that position … Struggles to maintain position when weighing more that 315, as he lacks stamina late in games … Is a smart, yet lazy athlete with a soft upper body and fleshy midsection … Struggles with class work, mostly due to lack of effort … Will not do the little extras in the weight room or practices to improve … Lacks total effort and will disappear for stretches during the game … Lacks awareness on the field and when he is late off the snap, defenders can quickly knock him off the ball … Stands too erect and with a narrow base to get proper anchor …

Simply lacks concentration and even though he knows his assignments, he will blow a few because of his laziness … Has a marginal burst off the snap and you really have to wonder if he is serious about football … Lacks the leg drive needed to clear lanes for the ground game … Will grab and maul, but is not the type to knock defenders off their feet … While he shows good arm extension, they collapse on impact too often, causing him to get pushed back into the quarterback … Lacks pop and explosion with his hands.

I vote for Stanford Routt. He's a major project most people didn't have going until late second day, but Oakland picked him at the top of the second.

    i vote for maurice clarrett.

why in the hell would denver do that? they can turn anyone into a 4-figure back and they've got tatum freaking bell.

three CBs and maurice clarrett. i'd be pissed if i were a bronco fan.

also, the packers' draft sucked. i get to razz my father-in-law about it, too. he called me from the sports bar when they took rogers to tell me i was wrong (i toold him i took thomas davis for the packers in the TBR mock draft) -- but i told him i was happy because davis is a panther. he was OK taking rogers -- even knowing how godawful that defense is.

i mean, that's just a stupid, stupid pick. you've got the bears, viking and lions ABSOLUTELY LOADING UP ON OFFENSIVE TALENT and you take a backup QB and a fourth WR with your first two picks.

Considering the Steelers only ever use their TE as a run blocker, I don't understand this pick. I read a few clips about him, but never saw anything about his laziness until your post. Different position, but reminds me of Jamain Stephens

everything the raiders did was pretty bad, and the seahawks did some stupid shit as well. trading up to reach for a tiny little linebacker?

That pick was all about reaching for the speed.

Al Davis lost his mind long ago. He makes his picks off his combine notes.

But I don't like what Atlanta did at all. White reminds of a poor man's Peerless Price. And then follow them up with two undersized inside defensive players. Not sure what they are doing.

If the Steelers are going to utilize TE-Heath Miller, something they haven't had since Greene, then I'm all for it. As far as his work habits and type of player think Todd Heap.

Here's what Gil Brandt says about Oakland taking Routt at the top of the second:
"Routt is a world-class sprinter. He's a big corner with unbelieveably good times in the cone and short shuttle. He was under 4.37 in the 40. This is a really good pick because he's fast and tough."

Is it just a matter of no one having the balls to be mean anymore, or is no one even trying?
