I have a LINKSYS Wireless-G broadband router hooked up. The people next door and probably half of Charlotte are on it. I want to be on it too and I have a laptop but no software-- What can I do to hook the laptop up to the wireless ?
Any serious help would be appreciated and any good jokes will be laughed at.

and you should protect your wireless router -- not only are they stealing your bandwidth, but they can get into your system.

You can get a wireless adapter but it is mostly for desktops. Plugs in your USB port with a transmitter. Not very mobile.

Nah...my old laptop wasn't enabled. Just bought a card from D-Link and plugged it in. Worked fine.

A simple PCMCIA card in the laptop would work the best, if he doesn't have wireless built in. And like Larry said cut the neighbors off.

That's what I use on my laptop. Got the desktop hard wired into the router. The laptop connects wirelessly. If you want to stop people from stealing your connection, you need to secure it. If you got a cd with the router, it will walk you thru the steps to doing that. Then, when you connect with the laptop, you just need to enter the WEP key the software gave you and you are online. Took me about 2 minutes.

Last week this thing was $29.95. Now it's $49.95. Go to Wal-Mart, they have some too, cheaper than this. D-Link, Linksys, almost any brand will do. USB Wireless receiver is what you want. Follow the instructions or let savio come hook you up.

    compaq

and you should protect your wireless router

    how?

And like Larry said cut the neighbors off.

the neighbor is the one that bought the router and hooked it up in my house. He is a pilot in the Air Force and rarely home. His laptop had the drivers etc, in it. Mine don't and he has no way to give me any.
