So I'm watching TV and I notice another ad for John Woo's new flick, Windtalkers. It's the WW2 story of the Native American code-talkers that helped us win the intelligence war...
But anyway, I'm watching the ad thinking it's for the DVD cuz I swear to god this movie has already come out. Turns out, no it hasn't. It was SUPPOSED to come out back on Thanksgiving of 2001, but was put off till this summer.
Then the question in my mind is "why the fuck would you put out a WW2 Unsung Heros Historical Piece on June 14 instead of Memorial Day?" It'd be a lock. Especially in the ultra-patriotic mood we've got going right now.
Then it hit me like a bad case of starin' out the peephole -- they probably expect(ed) us to be at war by June 14 and not by Memorial Day. How else could you justify a war pic not opening on Memorial Day unless you figured there was a bigger payoff later. The decision to move the release date was back in late September. Did Washington tell the producers (and Hollywood in general) what was/is gonna happen? They have asked Hollywood to help the PR campaign...
Okay, I was probably stoned at the time...
