I don't really like it........ at all.

I have a laptop I'd like to network with my desktop PC. With 2 XP machines it was easy as fuck to do. Now I can't find a damn thing in Vista to allow it to see/find/create/connect to the existing network I have set up on my desktop (which is running XP).

I have my XP desktop set up to share files with my old XP laptop. That works fine. But I can't get the Vista laptop to see either XP machine. It can get on the network only to the point where gets the wireless internet connection from the router. But it can't see any other computers connected to it.

I'm pretty sure it's something easy as shit that I'm missing just because I have never seen/used Vista up until now. I was going in circles on that damn thing for like 2 hours, and couldn't find shit.

The principles are still the same: got to get past the Windows Firewall by setting up the File and Print Sharing exception, and you still have to have the user account and password you are using defined on each box - either local accounts or domain accounts.

Well that ain't how I was set up with XP. I just shared files via the 'Shared Documents'. I had the laptop which only logged in as Admin and the Desktop which had two accounts. I couldn't access the accounts from the laptop, but I could access the Shared Docs where I stored all my music & photos.

    Ugh...

Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Turn on Network Discovery, File Sharing, & Public Folder Sharing

Now its pretty much like XP. Like I said people don't try. Furthermore they don't understand this is done to make it more secure. Then they'll bitch because of being hacked or viruses or whatever.

'Administrator' is disabled by default in Vista.

Werd. I love Vista, so long as you have the horses under the hood to run it. It would be a biatch on an old PC. Sometimes it seems if your name is Microsoft, you can't win no matter what you do.
