Forward suffered a torn ACL during Thursday’s game; will miss 4-6 months

RALEIGH, NC— Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that right wing Justin Williams will have reconstructive knee surgery after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during the first period of Thursday night’s game against the Florida Panthers. The surgery will be scheduled next week, and Williams is expected to be out of action for four to six months.

Williams, 26, has nine goals and 21 assists (30 points) in 36 games this season, and is tied for fifth on the team in scoring. The Cobourg, Ont., native has totaled 121 goals and 185 assists (306 points) in 458 career NHL games with Philadelphia and Carolina, and played in his first NHL All-Star Game in 2007. Prior to Thursday’s injury, Williams had played in 205 consecutive regular-season games for the Hurricanes from March 27, 2004 until Dec. 20, 2007, the fourth-longest consecutive games played streak in franchise history.
