So in essense we are in two camps here. A “need” camp and a “BPA.” Camp. Interesting, I think these exact same discussions are going on at Ericsson right now.

I prefer to think of it as adressing a need w/ the BAP of value, not reaching. That's why I talk trade down to avoid reaching for need.

More of a zone camp. BPA at a need within a range.

Arguably Trufant and Gross will be BPA and biggest need. Especially if Leftwich goes earlier.

Watch a Terrell Suggs drop all the way to us in this scenerio...

    CB - Palmer
    Det - Rogers
    Hous - Gross
    Chic - Kennedy
    Dall - Newman
    Zona - Johnson
    Sota - Trufant
    Jax - Leftwich
Car - ???? WTF Then? Bailey or Harris?

Of course thats when da phone rings off the hook IMO. Somebody will want to come up for Suggs. Guaranteed.

Odds & ends - from Sportsline:

There are some teams that have medical concerns about Georgia linebacker Boss Bailey, to the point where they are strongly considering not picking him in the first round even though he is clearly first-round talent. Bailey had knee troubles at Georgia, which is a concern to a handful of teams. Even so, expect Bailey to go somewhere in the middle of the first round.

Leftwich had a decent workout Monday in Florida, proving he was healthy enough to move around without much trouble. But some coaches and scouts at the workout say he looked rusty. That shouldn't hurt Leftwich, who should still be a top 10 pick. What might hurt him is the perception he played his career in the shotgun, which will make it difficult to move under center. Leftwich was forced to play that way last season because of his injured leg

Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell, who had hoped to get a long-term extension, is not getting the offer from the team he had hoped. The new coaching staff says they are committed to Brunell, but not enough to give him a long-term extension. The team is willing to restructure for cap reasons, but they don't want to give him a new long-term deal with big up-front money. That could be a sign the Jaguars might take a quarterback in the first round of the draft. Coach Jack Del Rio was at Leftwich's workout.

There is still no consensus on the No. 3 cornerback in the draft. Some teams like Sammy Davis of Texas A&M, while others like Eugene Wilson of Illinois or Andre Woolfolk of Oklahoma. The views on Woolfolk vary greatly. Some teams think he has first-round talent, while others think he's more like a third-round guy. "When you watch him play, he just doesn't make any plays," an NFC scout said. Said an AFC scout: "He got torn up in a couple of games." Woolfolk could slide out of the first round.

I think we will have a chance at either Trufant or Gross with our pick. I would be happy with either. If they are both gone then maybe we trade down and get Bailey and OL help. I would rather get Trufant or Gross though.

Sounds like for most of us Trufant would be fine pick.

    Can't disagree.

Hell yeah. Maybe a lesser of evils for some, but that's one spot where we truly get both impact, future, and need. Trufant followed by right tackle du jour wouldn't be terrible.

When things like this happen, chances are all will go top 40 at the least. That'd suck. If we go Gross, then the next push need/value is corner.

I think Trufant might be and maybe should be the target (considering they don't want Leftwich). Thats assuming a lot but Trufant would be a great pick at a need position. I still think he has proven more than Gross thus far and to me Trufant could be the #1 corner in the draft. Newman is the better athlete but given his age I don't put him above Trufant necessarly. Trufant is a little bigger, a little better run supporter and almost as fast as Newman. Newman is a ridiculous athlete though so he kinda gets a slight nod on pure talent.

Woolfolk is a reach in round 1 IMO. He has a lot of talent but I don't pick a guy with very little CB experience for safety or CB in the first round. Talent is there - but he is an awful lot like Rashard Anderson IMO. Anderson could be good as could Woolfolk but he is gonna need a couple of years just to learn the position.
