I have also read that he often skirted practice and workouts, just doing enough to get by, though I don't have links.

He is fat. He is slow. He is weak up top. He loses many millions of dollars because he is too lazy to run everyday and watch his food intake during perhaps the most important few months of his life.

Bad, bad signs. How will this sense of entitlement play out during contract negotiations? Badly.

Not running is kind of "no reason" isn't it? I would think that teams have enough film that they could figure out if a guy is fast or not.

I have no idea whether White should have dropped or not. I'm just saying that if you accept some sort of conspiracy theory that the Panthers were involved in, why stop halfway?

You can also make the point that he isn't selfish and has character in the sense that in media terms, he has always been the Scottie Pippen to Bush's Michael Jordan hype. In that sense, he is a team player and has character enough to be a team player.

You can also play devils advocate by saying that he accepted the #2 role in the backfield because they were winning, and Bush is so versatile...But if White was there, I would pull the trigger. We can afford it. If he busts, then thats bad to have a 1st and 2nd bust in back to back years, but the dividends of picking White and having him pan out are really phenomenal, IMO. The Panthers are a team that can actually take a chance on White and not have it hurt them terribly. I think that he is proven enough.

    Film doesn't show character.

while we're speaking in gross generalities, not all good football players are saints.

No, that means they're asy to find if you stop being such a lazy ass (maybe you like White because you guys have something in common) that doesn't know anything but still asks other people to provide knowledge for him. Seriously, reports about White's character flaws have been dogging him since high school. Go out and read.

Actually there were also numerous rumors that White was extremely pissed off about being perpetually overlooked and wanted more credit from the media. As I've noted, I think he actually deserved more attention in college, but you really can't give him any credit for being a good team guy when anonymous teammates say that he wasn't.

Very true, but it's not as if people are skeptical because he has a bad personality or doesn't give to charity. He's bad in football terms, meaning he doesn't take care of his body, doesn't work hard, and apparently is pretty conceited as well. All those are enormous red flags.
