Does anybody else feel that a possible return to the Giants may be in line for him? If you look at them, they are exactly the type of team that he would love to coach. Strong running game and a nice defense. I think if I was the Giants organization, I would be calling Fox up to see how he felt about coming back.

Giants. He may not be popular at first but will be. He's got assistants that are still there (Mike Pope), a QB, and the defense is already in place.

I wish him no ill will. It is what is, but who cares. He's had a decent run here and know we need the next Tom Landry or Chuck Noll to come to Charlotte.

I'll always take a mild rooting interest in any team Fox coaches, be it college or pro. Remember, back around 2007, there was some UCLA speculation. I still wouldn't rule out an immediate, or eventual, dip into the college pool. Unlikely, but possible.

Giants make too much sense, unless Coughlin somehow sneaks into the 6th seed today and goes on a tear in the playoffs. It's happened before.

Sorry--Cleveland makes very little sense. Holmgren wants back in. Very clear 3-4 personnel--almost non-transferable. Not the best gig available, either--weakest link in a tough division.

All that said, when we line up against him, it's like when we've lined up against other past "loves" (Jake, Pep, etc). We gotta get our shit lined up, QB/Coach/Staff, and retain the good parts that we already have (Smith, DW, CJ, Kalil). With all that, we're extremely difficult to beat.

According to Yas, he was up for the Buffalo job and lost out to Gailey. Buffalo, Gailey. Let that sink in for a moment.

Now he has a trainwreck season added to that resume. Even allowing for extenuating circumstances, a totally non competitive 2-14 or 3-13 season does not say a lot for him. I don't see him being that hot of a commodity right now.

Maybe my coffee hasn't sunk in, but when did Fox/Gailey ever square off for the Buffalo gig? Presumably, we're talking about the current state of affairs, right?

If the Giants lose today, I'd be willing to put down money that Fox will be their next head coach.

I should have linked that when I posted.

I believe it was from Yas on his blog, but I've just gone back through it and can't find it anywhere. Either it was edited or it came from somewhere else. It wasn't old, I'd just read it before making that post.

The context was that JR allowed Fox to seek other employment after denying him an extension.

I've gone looking, and this is pretty much the best I can find:

    http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/story?w=1a82j&storyId=5975190&i=TOP&topslot=1

    The quote:

Okay, what I read did not contain the bolded part, and that puts a different spin on things.

I did some Googling and found this from the Charlotte fishwrap which definitely changes the interpretation I made:

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/09/11/1685943/beginning-of-end-panthers-fox.html

    edit to add:

btw, Google took me to a post on a Bills board from last year, about the time this was happening, which was worth reading.
