The more I think about it the more I feel like he should be brought back next year to suffer through or clean up the mess he's made, but with a ban on trading any 2011 draft picks.

    Hurney can go any time.

    From ESPN Insider:
It's long been rumored that if former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher makes a return to the NFL sidelines in 2010, it will be for the Carolina Panthers, who play their home games near where he makes his personal home nowadays. But before anyone gets too far down that road, an important consideration is whether or not team owner Jerry Richardson is willing to buy out the final year of head coach John Fox and GM Marty Hurney's contracts (about $6 million). A source has told Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports that this is not a foregone conclusion.

There's a new theory that might reunite Cowher with his old pal, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert. Of course, that $6 million hurdle may stop this reunion from taking place in Carolina. But there's a job opening as the "football czar" of the Cleveland Browns, and it's widely expected that whoever gets that job will fire current head coach Eric Mangini as first order of business.

So, with the Steelers effectively out of the playoff hunt, the following -- totally hypothetical, obviously -- situation could unfold: first, Colbert is interviewed and hired as the new football czar in Cleveland. Colbert wastes no time in firing Mangini. A search ensues for the next coach of the Browns, and in the end, Cowher is hired.

As you may recall, there were rumors in Nov. 2008 that Cowher was going to be hired to replace Romeo Crennel in Cleveland. The qualifier then was that Cowher would also want the power to build his own roster. With Colbert in the mix, he'd certainly have a big say in the personnel decisions.

Cowher in Cleveland does make sense.

People have the money wrong on Fox/Hurney. Fox is worth $6.5 million himself next year, but no one knows what Hurney's making. It's a fair sized buyout and I doubt he does both and also happens to pay Cowher the megabucks he'll ask for.

    finally watched this:
if Cowher wants complete control I have a hard time believing that JR will go with that.
Also, the Cowher-Colbert connection makes less sense if Cowher requires he be the one who does every bit of it himself.

I also don't buy that JR will give any coach $10 million. No more than that I buy he should hire Cowher because of the geographic location of his house.

The Texans came in the league during Fox's first season as the Panther's head coach. I was comparing their lack of success over that time frame to what we have had under Fox.

He shouldn hire him because of his house location. He could want to though because he's a good coach who is believed to be interested in the job.

Money should be the only reason why Richardson wouldn't explore the option once a decision to change is made.

Shit, get Hard Knocks in here to drum up merchadise sales.
