Honestly... I don't think they CAN release Mitchell. At this point he's the only solid, stable part of that group, and trying to find someone right now to replace him will only make a bad line worse.

    Amen Brain,

Mitchell is the only solid rock we have on the O line at this time. You'll have to sign him, but, not at his current price tag. Minter = getting old!!!! What do you do about S. Davis and D. Foster. Which one do you let go? Do you keep both??? Some tough decisions will need to be made. Foster just flat out gets hurt too much, but when he's healthy, he's one of the best.

    Here's what I think:

Drop / Renegotiate Minter. He's old and expensive.

Renegotiate Mitchell's contract. He's still solid, but he too is expensive.

    Move Branch to SS

    Draft / Sign a FS

    Resign Moose.

Find a deep hole and bury Willig there.

    Move Gross back to RT.

Draft / Sign a good LT.

Find a new psycho special teams guy who doesn't get drunk and drive around every weekend.

    And that's about it.

Really think so? I kind of felt the bloom going off his rose before he got hurt.

wasn't a great returner, just decent. Fine special teams player, but doesn't add as a RB and was one of the reasons we didn't have actual depth. He's a free agent, and might get interest elsewhere. Honestly, I don't want to pay him - if we had 53 open roster spots and no inactive rule, then you keep him, but I want a dedicated returner and don't feel like wasting two roster spots on it.

Yeah, I've agreed for a while that I don't like Smitty on punts and it didn't seem like Smart was deemed worthy of doing both for whatever reason. I guess that, plus the $, is behind my thinking.

It seems like we could draft somebody on the second day with good return skills and marginal receiver skills. It would be nice to have a guy who is a dedicated returner and a good enough one to keep Smith off of special teams.

I hope we make a stong play for Moose. I know we can't pay that 10 million roster bonus but an extension would be nice. If Smith does not come back strong next year we are gonna be hurting if we have no Moose.

The OL needs help. Ulitimately it is the weak link that cost us the playoffs. Gross is still a good player and should get better at LT, I would not be opposed to moving him back to RT if we had a better guy for LT. Walter Jones would be nice but I know he is out of our price range. Wharton looks solid at one guard position but I am still not sold on Reyes. Mitchell needs to come back but his salary may be hard to swallow especially if we keep Moose. We basically have nothing at right tackle. We need to do something there very badly. I hoping for at least two new starters for the OL next year, two guys who are solid.

We didn't draft Gross for RT, that's the biggest problem with that. It's damned disappointing if he's gotta move back.

I really think he will be ok at LT after he gets more experience. He is certainly playing better than some other guys like Robert Gallery. We need to add some talent to the OL though. We basically got by playing backups all year at right tackle and right guard.
