But they still have not signed prior to the next draft. So wouldn't they go back into the draft pool?

    Welcome, NC
I knew the whole "they're gonna actually play" thing was just a farce. They wanted to get as much $ as they could up front so they could make money on it until next year. Sure am glad I picked the 10%-90% option so I don't have to pay the rest until the whole clusterfuck gets resolved.

Don't think so. You only go back in if you sit out an official season.

Drew Henson says no. It may be true for undrafted players.

EDIT: Drew Henson says yes, I thought his time after the Texans drafted him was two NFL seasons but was in fact one. So yes a player that sits out a year will be redraftable by any team in the league his rights are tradable up until the next draft starts.

A year long lockout would probably find another way to handle this.

That may be right, but as of yet I have nopt been able to find anything from an official source. I know that if you get drafted but have not signed before the next draft, you go back into the pot. There is never a mention of having an official season.

Of course, the NFL has never lost an entire season so we are in totally uncharted waters.

I agree that there would probably be some negotiated settlement, but I would also say that is probably going to be pretty far down the list. Up to now the only way to have missed a season was to hold out, since the nfl has never lost an entire season.

The rules regarding the draft are defined by season, not time period. If there is no season then the players drafted still belong to the team that drafted them until the completion of an official season. The one interesting part of your question is that an abbreviated season (6-8 games) would seemingly make it a lot more palatable for draftees to hold out and go back in the following season if they don't get the contract they want or don't like the team that took them. So there would be a lot of pressure on teams to give those guys whatever they want, since it would appear to be less of a risk for the player to hold out and go back in the draft. Cam in particular could use that to force the Panthers into the highest contract in NFL history if there is no rookie cap as part of the new CBA.
