he does an effective job pleading his case, as I'd expect. I don't think he chose to fail, obviously not. But certainly there were problems.

Fox wants conservative. Henning is conservative. Blaming Fox for the offense isn't something I've ever really bought into - just because they want somewhat the same thing, doesn't mean Fox was happy with what he got.

This article makes me believe it was Henning who wanted to stick with Peete too long. I believe it was Fox who forced Peete in the year before, but who knows.

I just hope we don't have to have a "who shot JR" thread. :sponge:

Just a random question: if the head coach doesn't like how the offense is being run, shouldn't it be him that tells the OC how he wants it run? if he doesn't like the play calling, tell him to change it up? Its not like they're on opposite teams and he can't do something about how things are going.

Who says Fox didn't ask him. Maybe that's where the statement "We coached within the philosophy, and we did the best we could with it" came from and thus he got canned for it.

supposedly, that happened somewhat, and certainly, firing him is one way of telling him he doesn't like how it's run.

Mags, I still don't agree with what you're saying, but everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. Neither your opinion nor mine is the correct one, but that's what makes the world go round. :wavey:

While certainly the team is a commodity to be sold to the public and marketability is taken into consideration, I don't think Henning is gone because fans wanted it. This team was supposed to make a hard run at the Super Bowl (not just people who like the team said that) and possibly win it all. They struggled to finish dead smack middle of the road average. But they had a higher tv market and still sold out all their games, so I don't think the powers that be paniced when they heard fans grumbling and forced a coach they were completely happy with to the curb. If they did that, then we may as well kiss SB hopes goodbye because these guys aren't great business men. Odds are THEY weren't satisfied either and knew changes needed to be made. Fox likely has another two years to get the ship righted or he'll follow Henning out the door. A team that isn't making it's fans happy likely isn't pleasing the boss completely either and when you fall so far short of at least somewhat realistic expectations (I always thought they were inflated), a good businessman makes needed changes or at least insists his subordinates re-evaluate everyone/thing.

If you look at our offense under Henning it has always been inconsistent.

If we were running the ball well we were not passing well. If we were passing well we were not running well. If we found a hot receiver we never found a compliment to stop the double teams. If Jake started to struggle we had no method of getting him out of it. There were no gameplans that featured easy passes and things to build his confidence. Jake's struggles often related to bad mechanics, something the OC should make sure is corrected.
