Am I just lucky? No, I didn't get infected again. I'm not that stupid...

It's just that I get about 5 e-mails a day that are just the same old stupid message. "this is a new game. I hope you'll enjoy." or "my first website. I hope you'll enjoy." (They all seem to hope I'll enjoy them).

Then I get a bunch of unsolicited virus removal tools. I'm sorry, if I get an e-mail with the word "virus" in it, I'm hitting delete even if it's only a letter from my aunt telling me she has a cold. I'm a little nervous since my last... enounter.

Oh and then there's the "sexy japanese lass' pictures" blank email with an attatchment I'm sure I'm supposed to open. Actually, a lot of them are blank with attatchments. Norton sees these coming a mile away.

Lately it's been these weird e-mails with text-encoded attatchments with the word "VIRUS" clearly evident in the first little bit of garbage. They're sent to me by people like "jkoot", "vb", "47", and "ldrhan".

My favorite, tho, is the phony returned email from "postmaster". "the file attatched is the original email" it promises. My ass. "hmm... I don't remember sending anybody a screensaver file. Odd. Maybe I should install it."

When will it end? How much is this costing folks? It's gotta be substantial. It's been going on for like at least a couple months. Is the internet so huge people can't see where this shit is coming from? I know it's not just one source or something, but you'd think ISP's would be able to contact their users when they see they're infected...

Oh well, I'm done ranting...

I did a google search for the file name on the last pc virus I had, just a thought.

I've been getting a lot of unsolicited porn mail these days, too. If your antivirus is up to date, when you open an attachment, it should catch it. There's always a chance, however, that the virus is too new for the antivirus definitions, so chucking the email is best. You have learned well, gwasshoppa.

Symantec is where I go to learn about viruses and junk.

I had friend send me an email with a virus attached and Norton caught it. This is my first encounter with a virus so it was nice to know that Norton really does work.

I got a phone call from a guy that said my Mccaffe needed renewal and that I could do it for half price over the phone. All I needed to do was give him my credit card number and he would handle it. Some people are just nice.

McAfee's got some weird licensing policies. You have to lease licenses rather than buy them. Whatever.

I have the on-line version. It updates itself when I let it. I only turn it on when I need to.

I think part of the problem is that I've got an email address that's in a readme file that's in a download on my website. Basically, it's published so anybody out there can e-mail me. This is the address that gets all this crap mail, or at least most of it...
