I dig my iPod Shuffle, but I don't see any benefit to adding video. Consumers haven't shown any interest in portable video devices, mainly because it's impossible to watch stuff while you're in motion. Maybe the pervs who ride the bus will use it to watch spank videos, but pervs who ride the bus don't have $400 to drop.

Vcast hasnt even been that popular with Verizon's customers.

Im with you, Science. The novelty is great, but I doubt most would find it useful, much less entertaining for an extended time.

I like my vcast.. but its not worth the extra $15 or $15.99 a month... It might become useful during basketball season because there is a game almost nightly...I use it now if i'm out for Saturday / Sunday football scores..

I dont have much interest for the news/ entertainment / weather and the other vcast extras.. i can always wait till i get home ...I'll more than likely drop it before my 1 free month is up...

The value isn't there for you commuters, but for those that travel extensively, it is huge. If I can transport my Media Center or TiVo recorded shows to a portable device, be it my laptop or ideally a smaller form factor, I can watch my favorite TV shows and movies while in a plane, in a hotel room, etc.

I know a LOT of people that own similar devices (they've been out for years, Apple is late to the game).

If anyone has a shot at pushing portable video devices to the masses, it's Apple and their 87% market share. I still don't think it's going to happen.

The question is, do they have video content. The Windows-centric devices can pull MCE content easily, some devices can support TiVo 2 Go (which basically sux, but that's another story). I don't know much about Apple's story.

If they can get a rich content story there, airports are full of people that'd pay to watch their own content on their own time on a decent form factor...
