    Assuming that our four biggest draft needs are FS CB WR & OL I focused on those and came up with a value board. We need 4 future starters from what is a very rich draft and unfortunately we might need at least one of them to start day one. Fortunately there seems to be good depth at a couple of positions of need for us. I took the average of a few different top 200/300 players and that # is in ( ).

    FS –
    1st
    (46) S. Jones

    2nd
    (66) Schweigert
    (72) Ware
    (77) Shivers

    3rd
    (98) Everage
    (112) Allen
    (121) M. Williams
    (127) Pruitt

    4th
    (133) A. Parker
    (157) Reid
    * Baker
    * Hudson

    CB –
    1st
    (28) Strait
    (29) Poole
    (34) Robinson
    (39) Carroll

    2nd
    (64) Ratliff
    (70) Vasher
    (75) K. Smith
    (76) Colclough

    3rd
    (81) LeSeuer
    (90) Thomas
    (96) Brooks

    4th
    * Spencer
    * Thornton
    * Cox
    * Waddell

    WR-
    1st
    (25) Clayton
    (26) Woods
    (31) Jenkins
    (33) Evans

    2nd
    (56) Henderson
    (63) Wilford
    (68) Colbert
    (71) Darling

    3rd
    (89) Luke
    (99) Cotchery
    (108) Hamilton
    (115) Berrian
    (122) Newson

    4th
    (130) S. Parker
    (132) Morant
    (148) Watts
    (159) BJ Johnson

    OL-
    1st
    (34) Carey
    (36) Rogers

    2nd
    (48) Smiley
    (52) Dorsey
    (56) Butler
    (61) Snee
    (67) Locklear
    (74) Wharton
    (82) Starks

    3rd
    (90) Joseph
    (94) Stacy Andrews
    (99) Peters (TE to OT)
    (108) Terry
    (116) Pape
    (119) Rimpf
    (124) Clabo

    4th
    (127) Snell
    (132) Bubin
    (138) Bell
    (143) Clarke
    (146) Herrera
    (152) Olivea
    (158) Reuber

    5th
    (160) Bishop
    (165) Chambers
    (171) Crawford
    (176) A. Hall
    (182) Cavka
    (187) Hutton

    *Secondary seems like it should be the day one focus but who knows what will happen and if we go elsewhere then there should be a few sleepers later. Much like Spoon and Smitty were undervalued on every pre-draft board there are several guys that I found with that possible sleeper status:

    Brett Hudson FS 6-2, 215 Arizona State – Has coverage skills as CB but is projected to FS in NFL
    Rashad Baker FS 5-10, 205 Tennessee – Fast former WR & track guy who makes plays on the ball

    Then there are 4 names at corner I keep hearing - Spencer, Thorton, Cox, and Waddell. At this point they are projects &/or roleplayers but they might be nice picks if any drop to our 5th or 6th.

    It really looks like a no-brainer that we can put off OL and still get good value with our 4th. Given the large number of ranked O-linemen I eliminated all C prospects and still had to spread them out over 5 rounds.

    All of the sudden WR doesn’t look nearly as deep when compared to DBs (CB & FS) and OL (OT & G). Going ahead and taking that future 1 WR if Jones, Strait, Poole, & Robinson are all gone looks pretty smart to me. Woods along with Ware (or Allen in the 3rd), & LeSeuer (or Vasher in the 2nd) is actually looking possible and combine one of those trios with anyone of the OLs in the 4th &/or 5th and I would be ecstatic.

    Nice post. I haven't seen Straight valued as high as 28 in a long time. More like about 40 most places. He got torn up in Senior Bowl drills (but played well in the scrimmages) and ran about 4.55.

    Shawntae Spencer would be a very good sleeper pick in the 4th imo.

    I didn't know that Strait screwed the pooch in drills, but hopefully that is a rarity and he's still a solid shutdown prospect as a pro. These rankings are all over the place with some guys. At insiders.com he’s still listed as the #1 CB (mid 1st) but in one top 250 he was in the low 40’s. That’s a pretty big swing but there are even wider gaps than that the lower you go. Its all a lot of guess work at this point anyway, but I thought that averaging out a few of the rankings was a decent way to level things out a bit. It was an effort to try and narrow down the areas where guys we could use might actually be available to us.

    I wish Billy Bidwell was a little more stupid, then we could trade Al Wallace for the Cardinal's 3rd pick overall, and trade it along with a 3rd or 2nd to NE for their Picks, Get Straight and Jones and someone else, maybe a DE. But :drool: I think I need to be slapped back into reality.

    No not ALL of us. There are definitely a handful of guys here who are hardcore "just the facts" stick in the mud types and they live to administer those slaps. :D
