I imagine this is a simple question, but how do I know if my PC is running USB 2.0 or 1.x??

To find out which version you have, open the Device Manager by right-clicking My Computer and choosing Properties. Click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager. Scroll down until you locate the Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand the list of controllers. If you have a USB 2.0 controller in your computer, the word Enhanced will be listed somewhere in one of those names.

Thanks, one of the entries in my device manager under universal serial bus controllers does say USB2 enhanced, so I guess I am 2.0.

yup. That doesn't always mean all of your ports are USB2. Some may be 1.1 and others 2. I've had that happen on machines that were made just as USB 2 was getting big. This isn't a big deal. You just may have to try a couple different ports until you get the right one.

How can I tell which one USB 2.0 and which ones may be USB 1.1?

Honestly I don't know that there's a way to tell from just looking at the box.

yeah, but I was assuming needawindow was asking for something more substantial, and I didn't really have more than I'd already posted to give.

XP will give you a message about plugging a 2.0 device into a 1.1. might be the way to figure it out.
