You think he'd intentionally hurt his value on the open market next season to screw the team?

2007 was not due to a lack of effort. I wish people would stop saying that, especially when I've provided examples of other star DEs having similarly bad seasons. It just happens.

I stated it was a fear. I didn't say it was rational. Having said that, his 2007 year (whether it was lack of effort or mono or a bad moon) hasn't hurt him. I doubt a lackluster '09 would....

I wouldn't have thought so, but there were supposed to be rumors from the team he didn't put much into 07. There's a ton of conflicting info, including Gross supposedly slipping about an injury, including the team supposedly not wanting to disclose the injury, there's enough out there that I can't take much of it as useful. My favorite rumor is the syphillis one.

You don't think other teams look at FAs that are coming up and see how they've been performing? You don't think if he's put up 14 sacks the year prior he'd have more buzz around him?

If you're shopping in the bargain bin, sure. A player of his caliber? No. He is one of those freaks of nature. These guys are always excused and rationalized. Owners and GMs say, "What 'Player X' did for his last team will not be the same as what he will do for our team." If his numbers are sub-par, they'll excuse it by saying he wasn't happy here. The money will be there.
