I'd do a swap 1, 4 for Palmer and take Julio Jones at #4.

even if you flatten the curve on the top end it's not a great value. Hell it's not too much to ask for a 3rd.

Fuck no. Let's be realistic here. Palmer wants to go to a situation where he can compete, but more importantly, the Panthers are re-building and don't need to indulge in any fantasies where one above average but not great player can get them back into contention. If we were that close, we should have kept Peppers. Carolina is 2-4 seasons from being relevant, and while that doesn't mean you give up on the present, it does mean that you focus on a certain age group that can be ready to make an impact 2-4 seasons from now. Palmer still has something left, but the Panthers are just not a fit for either side.

Palmer's arm is sound, and his career TD/INT ratio would be a fresh change of pace here. I don't think swapping #1's for a legit QB and throwing in a 5th-7th would be completely terrible, so long as the team is serious about developing Clausen.

Peppers is not a QB. Plus, he would have cost the team upwards of $20 MIL a year. He's a splash player, and strong against the run, but our defense certainly didn't take a nose-dive without him.

Is Palmer magically going to quit looking like Jake (even worse at times)? He's all over the place with his throws. And then there's the matter of his contract. I don't know what he's owed but it's a lot.

    I'd rather sign Leinart :yikes:

Whoever we go with, honestly I'd rather have Moore as a #2. If we must keep Clausen, make him fight it out with Pike for #3.

In what was a shit year, Palmer still tossed 26 TD's, and his completion percentage was above 61%, something Delhomme never accomplished in a full season.

I don't think Palmer is god, but I do think he's a very good fit for what this offense needs.

We're not gonna get GOD. Unless GOD is Newton or some other rookie - and nobody seems to think there's a Manning/Rivers/Brady/Brees/Ben in that group - the best we can do is get a vet.

Palmer is probably the best one out there.

depends on what you're looking for. If you want to be better within those first 2-3 years, maybe Palmer is your guy (though you're sacrificing some of that future, in a way). It's a delicate balance, really. I'm not in favor of sacrificing too much for a guy who'll be 34 at that theoretical apex.

At this point I'd take a Palmer, 4, and high 2nd or 3rd trade for our #1 overall more for the ability to finally trade to get that extra pick than Palmer. It's terrible value but I'd love a repeat of the 1995 scenario (which was terrible value then too). I don't think there will be worse players at 5 than at 1, other than that Dareus will inevitably be gone.

Not that I really am in love with Palmer. He's played at both high and very low levels in his career, but the way Cincy fucked up what could have been a very good team for them in 2010 is a good enough reason to know they could have also fucked up Palmer individually too.

Trade down for a player and a 2nd or 3rd appeals more to me than just getting the best of a group of players at the top of this draft where nobody really stands out.

A deal for Orton wouldn't bother me either.
