too many announcers

There's officially too many players on TV talking about football. I can see guys with name recognition and a good speaking voice, and I can understand that guys like Emmitt still get shots to not sound stupid. But why is Antonio Pierce on TV? Marcellus Wiley? Nobody knows these guys. There's gotta be a hundred former players on ESPN, all that get about fifteen minutes of airtime, most of which have nothing to say.

 

Rodney Harrison on MNF is just rediculous. On top of that, he was one of the few nfl players I actually had an almost hatred of. Antonio Pierce is another.

 

The guys running the show equate playing experience with expertise, or at least assume the audience does.

 

Announcers in almost all sports are awful. College basketball might be the worst.

I don't understand how Chris Collinsworth still has a job. What an awful asshole.

 

At some point, the saturation point hits and they'll be shed. I always personnally thought it was pretty funny to have Trent Dilfer and Kordell Stewart critiquing quarterback play.

Harrison is not vocally awful, he's better than Emmitt and has some polish. Better than Tiki frankly. But he doens't bring a lot of great insight. Last night, discussing the Chargers, his point was that they miss Jackson, which was the story in the offseason. Dungy and Patrick pointed out that they are passing the ball up and down the field, they just can't block, kick, or tackle.

Dungy I do like.

I'd like to hear Fox doing it. Really like to hear him do a Panthers game.

 

I've almost come to dread turning on college football anymore - more and more women are starting to announce, and I don't even care if they know what they're talking about - most of them just sound stupid using the lines and catch phrases that most male announcers do. At least that hasn't happened in the NFL yet. I'm OK with the sideline eye candy reporters, but if they get into the announcers booth, that'll be the day I mute NFL football while I watch it.

 

I still say the best way to watch football is with the sound turned off and the Rolling Stones rockin' the speakers.
