Owens deal finally sealed; bound for Eagles

Terrell Owens will be an Eagle after all as a settlement has been reached.

SportsLine.com has learned that the T.O. fiasco has been settled with a deal that is essentially a brand new trade.

In the new deal, Owens will be traded from the 49ers to the Eagles for as Philadelphia defensive starter (who is not yet being mentioned because the player has not yet been informed). The Ravens will get a draft pick from the Eagles, likely a fifth-rounder, for their trouble in the matter.

The two sides were talking Monday about a variety of settlements that included the Niners receiving a third-round pick from any team that signed Owens and the Ravens receiving their No.2 plus another draft choice.

The settlement is contingent upon Owens' approval, but sources close to the player said that he was aware of the deal, had agreed and was going to Eagles' complex in the next 24 to 48 hours to take a physical and sign off on the new deal.

Great. The precedent that this sets will undoubtedly tear the collective bargaining agreement apart within five years.
I guess either there should be a universal clause written into contracts that makes it necessary for the player to agree to be sent to the agreed-upon team, or we could let the NFL be collectively ruled in the same form as NASCAR.

thats absolutely terrible for the Ravens. they need to go through the grievance process get their second rounder back lose the grievance and then take out their own grievance for a first or second rounder. they completely lost out on any decent WRs. The screw up rests on the 49ers. TO. and the NFL and the only ones paying for it are the Ravens.

FUCK the NFLPA. This is bullshit. The only thing handled wrong was TO not becoming a free agent. The trade to Baltimore was completely legal. If anything should be done, then it should be a matter of TO becoming a free agent, not rescinding a legal trade just because of his whining.

The 2 labor decisions in the last few months have the potential to turn the NFL into the NBA.

This is not a labor decision and its not brought upon by the NFPA. The arbiter never made his decision. This is a trade like any other. The trade may have been brought about by the strong case that TO had. His contract had a clause in it stating when his deadline was. This clause was added and signed the day before the Collective Bargaining Agreement was approved. The NFL he argues does not have the right to alter his contract. Dennsi Northcut, in a similar situation, is screwed. he did not have that clause in his contract. This isnt a situation, the way I understand it, that will change anything. The 49ers were scrambling to get something for him because the arbiter would rule him a free agent. based on the clause (which they had to have known about prior to making the trade.)

I think Owens wanted to be with the Ravens all along, and then when Jamal Lewis got arrested, TO 'thought fuck that shit, their season is in the tank without him', so he changed his story so he could be an Eagle and have a shot at Carolina in the NFC Championship game.

I wanna see what happens when McNabb shows him up on the field for screwing up like he did the guys in the NFCCG. Or when T.O. does something like that because he was "open" and McNabb takes off running or throws it to someone else.
