So getting back to an earlier question, with your CD software to burn DVD's, are you burning actual DVD's or Video CD's that play in a DVD?

I take a regular CDR (700MB) and the Pinnacle Software creates a Video CD playable on most DVD players $239 bucks and up. Mine happens to be a 5 disk Sony DVD player I think I got on sale for $249.

If you have ever seen a DVD Movie and know how the menu works where you can select which chapter you want to go to on the movie, the Video CD works pretty much the same way. It really is cool. You can play it as you recorded it or jump around from chapter to chapter. But your right, the DVD holds a ton more than the CDR. Like I said, maybe 6-12 more months, I can always throw one in...

My Mom will never have a DVD player so I liked the ability to put what I make back to VHS, the pinnacle card will do that too.

I just ordered the new Pioneer 104 DVD-R(W). Should get here in a couple days. I was debating getting an external, but opted for the internal since it was about $200 cheaper ($350) and was a Pioneer. The other one was an HP... nothing really against HP, but Pioneer I trust when it comes to DVD and CD...

Also, the external would require I buy a firewire card, I think. Or maybe it had USB as well, but it may have been USB 2.0 which I don't think I have... anyway, it would have been nice to have a portable that I could take to my fiancee's place to burn stuff on her Mac, but oh well... I could buy a whole nother one for her computer as an internal for the price difference, practically.

If you run into any installation problems, just send it to me....

Sandy, you son of a bitch, now you've really pissed me off. Not only did you NOT come to me for your new comp, you paid about $200 to avoid having to do it. Damn, I guess all the things Mags and Meat said about you were right.

Sorry BigM... I think I recall you working in the industry now that I think about it, but where?

I priced some parts from various places (the ones they put in the box) and if I would have just bought everything seperate and put it in myself, I woud have saved $140-$160. I still had a little work to do when I got home... transfer card, load OS etc...

$400 total with shipping and a couple boxes of DVD stock. I went to Tom's Hardware and picked the cheapest guys that had a decent review. I think it was HyperComputer or something... I got news yesterday that it shipped...

It's the PC version (I don't think there's a Mac version) but I've heard people put the previous model in their G4's without any problems... This one is for my PC, but I think my fiancee will get one if it all works out well for me (and if the price comes down a bit more).

That's the model Pioneer builds for Apple. Pioneer supplies all DVD-R's for Apple. The new model, 204-DVD-R, is shipping now, so expect a price break on the 104 model in the near future.
