On another note... If Newton really is the difference that makes Smith stay with the Panthers... that would be awesome. Both giving each other big props in the media.

I was toying with that idea myself . .. that cam might inspire smitty to get back to asskicking form for at least one more year. Hell, it's not hard to imagine smith making newton look decent . .. if he did it for jake maybe it's not that big a leap of faith

It would be good for both of them, but it's still hard to see someone Smith's age passing up the chance to play for a contender.

It could also have something to do with him punching people and generally acting like a bitch.

and choosing to not mentor the young guys who actually played worth a damn last year - or even just the most hopeless, Edwards, who posed no threat, that too. Which all came after he asked for some help at WR.

Outside of smacking people around, Smith is just a typical wide receiver. Most of them need that attitude. The ones who can play at a high level and be selfless are rare. He's voted Captain out of respect, but he's not that much of a leader, and he's gotta know that.

The diva thing seems to be a relatively recent development, though. I don't remember the Jerry Rice era being filled with assholes at wideout.

This morning, I am hearing on Mike & Mike that teams can start discussing trades now.

If we're trading him, would be best to do it before FAs can be signed. I guess if something is gonna happen it will be soon.
