Very important. Its possible to win without it, but teams that like each other tend to do ALOT better. I think lack of chemistry was a part of last years problems. Not between teammates. Between Henning and a good part of the O. Players believing in the coaches is a part of chemistry. There were reports of various coaches and players hating each other. When stuff starts not working, that's just one more mental drag.

I think it helps a lot. Remember those upstart 95 Panthers who did far more then they were supposed to? And then '96? Maybe those weren't to the SB, and yeah there were some player only meetings because of problems, but those guys for the most part were really close because together they were building something new.

How often do players say you play better as a unit when you know what the other guys are going to do? That's chemistry.

One of the things I use in coaching is the phrases "If YOU don't do your job, I can't do mine" & "If I don't do MY job, YOU can't do yours". I present it as a commitment I make to the players, the players make to me and the players make to each other. It's the anti-There is no "I" in TEAM.
Before we started I had 25 kids who didn't know each other and chemistry was an issue. Once we started to make that commitment the kids started to come around and work together.
I am of the opinion that without that bond, it's tougher to get things done. Granted we went 0-6, but once they started to work together they became competitive.

Good job, McFly. You can't always win with a random collection of children.

Chemisty is the study of matter - but I prefer to see it as the study of change.

It's the constant, it's the cycle. Solution, and dissolution. You have growth, and change - and then TRANSFORMATION!

    It's fascinating, really.
