Did anybody watch?

I thought the show was pretty lame this year. Performances were okay. At first I hated Dylan's act but it grew on me by the end.

Was glad to see O Brother Where Art Thou get some awards. If only to make some of the country stations pay attention and start playing and mixing in more folk and bluegrass music.

Nice touch with Steve Vai playing with Nelly Furtado. Wish they would have let him crack one off though.

Did anybody here the dude ranting about all the illegal downloading of music? Hear the boos?

and - the grand finale with all the gospel singers out there - who the hell was the "lone white boy" and what the hell was he doing out there anyway?

My sister and I both thought the Grammy's were dull.

I don't think U2 should've got album of the year. I don't like their music at all.

Mostly I tuned in for the fashions. It was certainly a big night for Alicia Keys, but her fashion sense leaves a lot to be desired. I thought that green veil & T-shirt getup she wore last night was ugly. She needs to take a note from Destiny's Child. They were dressed to kill in their black lace gowns, although I thought their slits were a wee bit too high. At least we weren't exposed to Toni Braxton's stretch marks and pubic hair this year.

Bono caused chaos at the Grammy awards in Los Angeles today when he defied all attempts to shut him up, rambling for minutes at a time to the consternation of TV producers and advertisers.

The U2 singer went on so long, over-running advertising slots worth nearly $500,000 a minute, that organisers tried to cut off one acceptance speech by playing music to drown him out.

Bono, clutching what looked like a beer bottle, collected the first of U2's four awards - record of the year, for Walk On - with the words: "Thank God. " He then rambled: "Being Irish, if you get eight nominations and no awards they wouldn't let you back in the country, So this is a public safety issue." He then thanked the band's manager, their record label and his mother.

But soon Bono was back as Britney Spears handed him the best pop performance Grammy for Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of. "I hope we don't win any more awards," he said. But he was just warming up: "It is still an extraordinary thing to behold the sound of a rock and roll band in full flight. Not just the sound of it when it gets airborne - but the deals that you make on the ground; the promises that your friendship will survive being broke [or] not being broke; the Eighties - and maybe 20 years later you will find yourselves at an award ceremony with people you started out with. Wow."

The audience didn't seem to know how to react. Eventually they applauded.

Bono returned to receive the award for best rock performance too, for Elevation. "It's an extraordinary thing," he began. "It's a gift much more than a craft in our case. This is a punk rock band, hearing mad tunes in their heads that are gospel and folk and psychedelic and hard rock.

"And we depend on what Quincy Jones said - we depend on God walking through the room, more than most. And God has walked through the room on our record and I want to give thanks. Amen." When they came back for a fourth award - rock album of the year, for All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2 guitarist the Edge tried to get a word in. "Some very special things have also happened to me," he attempted to say. But Bono snatched the microphone, explaining: "He's a guitar player. I do the talking.''

The CBS network had waited until the last second before cutting away from Bono for each commercial break. The organisers had asked each winner to keep their remarks to a brief 30 seconds, but Bono was on stage for nearly five minutes in total while collecting U2's four awards. This time, producers began to play music over him.

I'm sorry, but I just don't like U2. I'm so tired of hearing about them. I don't think they should've been chosen to perform at the Super Bowl. I've tried listening to their songs, but they do nothing for me. I'd much rather listen to Dave Matthews Band.

One thing about the download rant. I have no problem with it - there is one hell of a shakedown coming in the music industry. It just seemed rotten that the music industry could take 5 minutes to bitch at people for downloading music, but couldn't take 5 minutes to recognize some people who had DIED in the last year (Harrison, Waylon Jennings, etc.) Someone mentioned this on the radio here in Balt this morning. I agree.

You mean you were not emotionally moved when they did "Street have no name" at the Super Bowl??

Allowing one hit wonders to trip thru giggling, "thank you god and mama" acceptance speeches is the travesty of the thing. At least, for all his pretensious, long winded rhetoric, Bono has something entertaining to say. The likes of Tain or Alicia Keys are a dime a dozen in the music industry. A carbon copy will be at the next Grammy's. U2, whether you like them or not, have sustained for 20 + years. The music they made in this last year will carry on, just as there previous bodies of work have, far further than Alicia Keys, Train, Linkin Park, etc. could ever hope too.

I love U2, but even Boner's speeches have really gotten on my nerves. Almost as much as when he trys to play guitar, like last night. It's a shame one of the world's best band has such a cocky lead singer. But once again, I'll deal with it for their music.

Well I'll have to disagree with you on that one QCH. I know we like a lot of the same stuff but I'd rather listen to a dog howl than listen to ANY U2 song. I thought that crap at the Super Bowl sucked ass. I agree with Sportsgirl. Ugh - gives me a headache thinking about them.
