I like JLo. Don't know if he's enough, but he's another young big-arm guy. There won't be much else over the age of 35 unless you like a Huard, if that's even available, but there's a couple hundred of the fuckers out there.

Hindsight is 20-20 but Trent Edwards would have been a nice pickup in the 2007 draft. Time to start scouting young QB's imo. Jake isn't going to play forever and it time for Fox to start coaching up a future QB.

Why? Because he is mobile and has a strong arm?

I don't understand why nobody drafted Chris Leak higher. He had like the most passing yards in NCAA history. He would have been a better backup than Carr or Moore.

Former Florida Gators quarterback Chris Leak announced he plans to play in the new All American Football League.

In 2006, Leak led Florida to a 13-1 record and a national championship. Leak completed 25 of 36 passes for 213 yards and one touchdown in the BCS Championship, to lead Florida to a 41-14 victory over top-ranked Ohio State.

Leak announced Wednesday he will pursue his professional playing career by declaring himself eligible for the AAFL Draft. The draft will take place on January 25th, 2008.

What about Derek Anderson, Cleveland's QB right now that's a FA at the end of the year I believe. Young guy with starting experience, has played well and with a good WR, so he'll know what to do.

Restricted Free Agent, but he'd be worth giving something up for. Young, experienced and makes all the throws well. Good at everything, great at nothing...which I'd take in a QB any day.

I'd like to see Moore over Carr right now, like I said Moore at 100% is better tha Carr at whatever the fuck % he's at right now...mayb even better than Carr at 100%.

Vinny has almost zero chance of returning next year, and even if he did, he's only good for a game or two.

They'll keep Carr around, I'm sure, despite our heartfelt objections. Even if they could upgrade him, I doubt they would, just because it's not in Fox/Hurney's nature to admit a mistake so soon. FWIW, I think the Carr plan was a decent one going in. But the only way it would've worked was if Jake made it through the year. He didn't, and the plan crashed and burned in spectacular fashion.

I think we can forget about drafting a QB before the 4th round. I don't think Fox is the type to want to groom a young QB, and I don't blame him. We don't have the staff to get that particular job done. So if Jake doesn't make it all the way back from the elbow injury, they'll be looking for a veteran to replace him. And judging from past experience, they'll be looking at a Damon Huard (or a Jared Lorenzen) long before a Daunte Culpepper, and forget about a Donovan McNabb.

The QB3 spot is the easiest for me to figure out -- Basanez will fight it out with Moore and Olson. One guy makes the roster, one guy gets cut, one guy lands on the PS. My money is on Basanez to make the final roster. There's something about him I like.

QB2 is a little murkier. I think there's about a 99.9% chance Vinny will call 2007 his last barbecue. Carr is the guy (for now), but is only under contract through '08, so he's probably cuttable. If nothing is done (or if Carr is extended), then he'll remain Jake's backup and that will be that. If they let Carr go, then things get interesting. That's where guys like Huard, Grossman(?), Warner(?), and others become possibilities, depending on who's on the market, of course. Personally, I think if a guy like Warner became available, Fox/Hurney would snap him up in a heartbeat. And being the religious guy he is, I'm sure he'd have no trouble moving to Billy Graham Central.

QB1 is easy, too. If Jake can go, he's the guy. Granted, he's starting to age and getting a little injury-prone. Plus, this injury has a good chance of shortening whatever time he has left even more. That being said, even in the worst case scenario, I just don't see them bringing in a sexy top shelf (or close to it) QB like McNabb. Culpepper maybe, but no name bigger than that, I'm sure. We could try to make a move to steal a guy like Cassel away from NE, and that would make a lot of sense. But that's probably dreaming, too.

Has anyone considered there's at least a tiny possibility that the 2008 Panthers could find themselves without the top three QBs from '07? Vinny's almost a sure lock to retire; Jake's elbow could finish his career like it did with Bradshaw and Montana; and Carr could decide that a broken back and a bunch of concussions are enough for him (or he could just get cut).
