The BCS Mess

What exactly are you talking about?

The soccer thread where you claimed that sly agreed with you - even after he said you were full of shit in the thread. You remember that one right? The one where everyone - except Elric - agreed that you were wrong, but you kept posting because you are so wrapped up in your message baord standing.

You ran your mouth and tried to give me shit about my statement regarding the BCS and got embarrassed because you don't have even a basic grasp of statistics.

I'm sure that you believe that. But your whole argument revolves around the 2 best teams always being selected, but if that was true, then Vegas wouldn't have the field. Take the ACC tourney for instance - I highly doubt that the field would be favored over the top 2 seeds.

The reality is that you are a cocky, arrogant son of a bitch too, and it bugs the hell out of you that I make you feel dumb.

LOL, you really suck at reading people.

I don't think I ignore any of the flaws I actually have, but meanwhile you don't acknowledge any of yours or admit when you're wrong. You can't exactly condemn me for not being honest enough when you're not honest at all.

You ignore plenty thanks. Just like your argument style, you pick and choose what to acknowledge as flaws.

Now this is more like it, depending upon how much you're undoubtedly exaggerating when you say "big role" and "redesigning." The translation thing isn't impressive, but the other two certainly seem so.

I'm sure that assuming that I am exaggerating makes you feel better about your rock star life as a part time fantasy magazine writer, so, go right ahead, but big role and redesigning would actually be understatements.

Yes, let's continue to pretend like it's terribly embarrassing that I was asked to assist a major league organization simply because I'm not still working with them.

No one has said that it wasn't cool. What we said is that it's strange that they didn't offer you a job. I mean you keep telling us how qualified and smart you are. You'd think they'd see it too. You've never really described what you did either. I'm curious as to why.

Speaking of which, how exactly did you manage to do so many different things, as you so kindly detailed above, if you continued to work for each individual company afterwards?

They happened over many years. The last 2 led to promotions or bigger roles. In one, the client threatened to walk when my work wanted to move me to another project and in the other I was handpicked by the head of the project for my role.

I post about topics. You post about me.

I'm sorry, this just doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Hell, most of your posts in this thread have been about me.

I have honestly never looked for you around the forums. I post when I have something to say about what has been posted in that thread. And like I said, I don't even think about you away from these forums, while you've admitted to talking about me. Do you even understand how sick that is? You're so obsessed with me that you actually talk about me to people offline. That's just retarded.

I post when I have something to say as well. And when it's something that disagrees with you, so be it. I talk about lots of people from this board with others here. You would definitely be in the lower 10%. Which considering how much you post, makes you pretty iirrelevant.

Do you even understand how sick that is? You're so obsessed with me that you actually talk about me to people offline. That's just retarded.

On the retarded scale, it's still a few hundred rungs above losing a fight over an internet message board.

It's interesting that you would say so when just three hours before that post you were bragging about you "take unprovoked shots at pretty much everyone." You're a pedantic son of a bitch too, just a lesser one than I am.

Most of shots are humorous - or at least intended to be - not attacking.

The reality is that while I'm annoying, condescending, arrogant, irritating, and any number of other adjectives you want to use, I get away with it because I'm just that damn good.

We were in agreement until the last part.

Undoubtedly it's the fact that I keep kicking your ass in one argument after another that makes you so obsessed with me.

Apparently, you forgot delusional in your list above.

If I was an asshole you could handle, it wouldn't be a big deal, but me being much smarter than you and much better at arguing my points apparently makes me such a thorn in your side that you actually think about me away from the board.

I have no doubts at all that you have not only convinced yourself that you are smarter and better at arguing than anyone else, but that it actually comprises a great deal of your self worth, which makes the second part of the sentence even more hilarious.

And, I hate to break it to you, but it's obvious that you think of me away from this board, and we all know that. I mean, you actually offered me money to fight you.

I'm sure this was all tons of fun, but you're talking about hobbies and vacations. I led tours to Greece and Ireland, as well as studied Mayan & Incan ruins, whoopteedo. Those might be things we remember most late in life, but they're not exactly significant in the grand scheme of things.

But being a part time fantasy magazine writer is?

Can't believe I forgot this one.

The one where everyone - except Elric - agreed that you were wrong, but you kept posting because you are so wrapped up in your message baord standing.
Oh good grief, you're the one who is lying and you're telling one giant whopper at that. You're the one who almost everyone said was clearly wrong, including the Fox analyst who Elric emailed to ask about the situation. This is what I mean, vp. You're clearly smart, but the reason people don't value your opinion nearly as much as they do mine is because people have seen me admit when I'm wrong. They trust that I'm being genuine and saying what I believe, not just covering my ass. You they know will lie and humiliate yourself as in that red card argument just because you are pathologically incapable of admitting when you're clearly wrong. Think about that. Elric actually got a response from someone at Fox Sports who definitively said that you were wrong, and your reaction was to pretend that the guy had actually agreed with you. That's how mentally unbalanced you are.

And no, I didn't lie about what Sly said. I'm also sure that he did not say that I lied. By all means, produce a quote from him saying that I did.
Take the ACC tourney for instance - I highly doubt that the field would be favored over the top 2 seeds.
Over the top 2? No, probably not, but we're not talking about the top two. We're talking about just the one favorite, and I would imagine that the field is almost always (and perhaps is always) favored over the one favorite. That's because of the mathematical odds involved in any single elimination iterative process. You just don't understand the math, which is why you continue to babble even after I've explained it to you. Note that you haven't challenged my math or any of the facts I've presented, because you can't. All you've done is to give excuses to keep arguing something you know to be false.
Just like your argument style, you pick and choose what to acknowledge as flaws.
I've acknowledged more flaws than anyone else on this board, and while you might have fun arguing that it's because I am more flawed than anyone on this board, the reality is that I'm far more honest about that sort of thing than you have ever been. In order to judge others, you have to be willing to judge yourself by the same standards. I do, you don't. When you start showing the slightest bit of honesty about your own failings, then you might be able to lecture me. Until then you're a hypocrite who tries to tear me down because I make you feel small and irrelevant.
big role and redesigning would actually be understatements.
So I guess you follow that old idea that if you're going to tell a lie, tell a really big one. Next I'm sure you'll say that the merger was your idea and that you headed the whole project. Good grief, do you even listen to yourself? What would someone who had a substantially more than just "a big role in one of the largest mergers in US history" be doing spending his days on this board? Why would he have had so many different jobs with different companies? You get yourself in trouble when you embellish. Being involved at all, which I'm sure you were, would be worthy of note and is more than enough to brag about. Exaggerating your involvement only cheapens that while making you look stupid.
I'm sorry, this just doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Hell, most of your posts in this thread have been about me.
More bullshit from the consummate bullshitter. It's hard to imagine a bigger hypocrite than you. I didn't talk about you at all until you attacked me. My posts regarding you have been responses to you. So yes, when I am attacked or otherwise confronted, I will address that person. You, on the other hand, have admitted to thinking and talking about me away from these forums, and you've clearly been following me around the boards looking for opportunities to start shit with me.
On the retarded scale, it's still a few hundred rungs above losing a fight over an internet message board.
Clowns like you keep pretending that it was something to be embarrassed about when the reality is that you're too much of a coward to ever stand behind your own words. The fact that you pretend to look down on men settling their differences as men always have just proves how emasculated you are. Fighting isn't something to be ashamed of, it's something to be proud of. You pretend to think otherwise because you're a pussy.
Apparently, you forgot delusional in your list above.
That would have a lot more credence if:
1) You hadn't already admitted that you do talk about me away from the boards.
2) That you clearly follow me around the forums and look for opportunities to take shots at me.
3) People weren't tracking down my personal details and Emailing them to other members of the board.

It's not paranoia if other people clearly are out to get you. Now I'll grant that I've given many of them good reason to, including yourself after all the many times I've humiliated you and made you look stupid. But you still have a choice as to whether you wallow in that bitterness or move on.
that it actually comprises a great deal of your self worth
A small mind like yours simply can't comprehend one like mine, which is why you struggle with these sorts of mistakes. You are the one who defines yourself based on your ability to win arguments, which is why you refuse to admit that you're ever wrong about anything. Meanwhile I have shown many times that I can admit when I'm wrong. I don't argue with other people to acquire self-esteem, I do it to get peace of mind because seeing other people say stupid or wrong things really bugs the shit out of me. I want to make those people stop saying stupid or wrong things because that's the only way I can be content. "Winning" isn't about making myself look good, it's just about making the other person stop irritating me with their stupidity. I can't get enjoyment from "winning" an argument any more than I could from getting As in school because it's generally not enjoyable if you expect it.
it's obvious that you think of me away from this board, and we all know that. I mean, you actually offered me money to fight you.
I've probably done that to lots of people who annoyed the shit out of me, especially the ones I believed to be cowards. But no, I really don't talk about you away from the board. There are people who participate in these forums that I do know offline, talk to on IM, or play games with me on X-Box Live. Any of them can tell you that when they bring up someone from these forums, I don't want to talk about it. I'm not consumed with grudges and bitterness like you are. In fact, I'm remarkably forgiving. If you could somehow stop being retarded then I imagine we'd get along fine. That's actually happened with some people I used to fight with regularly but now actually do favors for away from the boards.

Look, I am a narcissist so I quite enjoy talking about myself, but even I have my limits. The reality is that if you didn't like talking about me, you wouldn't. You bring up my life regularly because you're obsessed with it. You can make as many denials as you want, but the fact is that you do bring it up and you do talk about it incessantly. If you want to prove that you really don't care, then talk about something else.

Here are quotes from that thread.

what i get out of what your posting collin is that it's up to the official to decide whether the tackle endagers another player.

i know when i ref'ed games that we were given the discretion to decide the severity of a foul. or whether i thought a hand ball was intentional. stuff like that.

i'm not sure if that's what vp is trying to get across but i think you may be getting upset over semantics.

either that or vp is getting a KICK out of this.

whoah, watch out. Pun thread outta no where.

Seriously, you make yourself look more dumb with each increasing font. What proves you wrong is right there in your own fucking quote. you claimed every tackle from behind was a red. But only tackles from behind that endanger the safety of an opponent are reds. If every tackle from behind was a red there would be no need for that little clause. It couldn't be any more simple.....well, that is to people who aren't deathly afraid of being incorrect about something.

here, the fifa rules for 2008. not the rules for the 1998 world cup.

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/federation/lotg%5fen%5f55753.pdff

show me, with the pictures provided in the law book where it says ANYTHING about AUTOMATICALLY giving someone a red card for a tackle from behind, or a breakaway or anything. if you can, tell me what page, what law and i'll say you're right and i'll never argue with you again. i'll even argue against the people you argue with and tell them how stupid they are.

but you have to use this link, which is the link for the laws of 2008 for fifa.

and collin, stop pming me.

The ten page bitchfest probably could have been avoided if someone had mentioned the last defender rule. If the last defender takes out an attacker (professional foul) it usually results in a straight red card.

But Collin quoting Blatter is fricking awesome, that fucker is a complete dick (Blatter). I loved watching Platini as a kid but it sounds like he's giving Blatter a run for his money in the biggest tool department (his foreign player rule that goes against everything the EU stands for).

Not all tackles from behind are straight reds, usually they will result in a yellow, if its reckless a red is highly possible. If its the last defender he'll get a red for sure (unless mark clattenburg is reffing). But tackle from behind and your at the mercy of the ref, not paragraph 14 or whatever.

All that crap Blatter was yapping about was prior to the world cup. They usually tweak a rule here or there in the hopes of making the game more fluid. But it is not an automatic red for challenging from behind. I dont care what that guber spouts. Watch a game and you'll see most decisions are subject to the refs interpretation.

All that said...Go Spain

His armband proved he was a red, Torres, Torres
We'll never walk alone it said, Torres, Torres
We brought the lad from sunny Spain
Give him the ball, he'll score again
Fernando Torres, Liverpools number 9.

Hopefully after the Euros we'll add Villa and Silvas too.

VP is right on the specifics in question. The rule leaves it to the officials to be subjective on what constitutes endangerment. Instructions to the officials supplements the interpretation of the rule, but is not a rule in and of itself.

Collin has a good arguement that is flawed in its application to the initial debate, which VP wins by a "small" margin.

That is FIFA saying how the rule should be interpreted, whether the ref calls it or not. But it is not specifically how the rule is written.

You have a valid arguement.....just not in the context of it being what is actually the rule as written. And that was the initial debate and how the thread started.

Collin - this is what you said that started this, yes or no?

The rule itself as written did not support you.

All the citing of Blatter, McMahon, Instructions to Refs, etc...supported your arguement on assessing a card, but not for the INITIAL POINT you said, that the rule requires a card, not that tackles from behind are supposed to draw a card.

Sorry, but it's true.

I do love how you say that you never think about me, but pmed at least 2 people about that thread. Yeah, you never think about me at all.

Here are quotes from that thread.
Yes, a couple of people did agree with you. Most who posted, not to mention the Fox Sports analyst and the president of FIFA himself, did not. The FIFA rules themselves did not. The media reports from the '98 World Cup explicitly stated that people were upset that red cards were being given for all tackles from behind. You were proven wrong, but you never admit to being wrong about anything. I'm beginning to wonder if you and erpi aren't the same person.
I do love how you say that you never think about me, but pmed at least 2 people about that thread. Yeah, you never think about me at all.
I PMed them because I was trying to get them to see where they were embarrassing themselves on the issue. I didn't PM them about you, I PMed them about the argument.

Again, you're the one who has admitted to thinking about me and talking about me away from these forums. You are quite clearly obsessed, and you need to seek professional help.

Who agreed with you? I mean, besides the guy who you said was too dumb to have an opinion? Please provide the quotes. Also, please provide the ones where someone said that I was wrong. I mean, it shouldn't be hard since "most that posted did not."

I PMed them because I was trying to get them to see where they were embarrassing themselves on the issue. I didn't PM them about you, I PMed them about the argument.

Sure you did.

Keep trying that tired approach, maybe someone besides yourself will buy it.

Best of Both Worlds

Division 1 Football Needs Playoff To Dertemine National Champion

It can be accomplished without doing away with bowl games, so you get the best of both worlds...

Take top 8 BCS teams and enter BCS Playoff, all other teams would participate in respective bowl games as normal. The playoff would consist of 7 games, the national champion would have to win 3. The BCS Bowl Games would fall into the playoff picture (would have to come up with 2 more BCS Bowl names, such as bringing back the Peach Bowl and maybe moving the Cotton Bowl into BCS).

Example:

December 20, 2008

Peach Bowl - #1 Oklahoma vs #8 Penn St.
Fiesta Bow l - #3 Texas vs #6 Utah
Cotton Bowl - #2 Florida vs #7 Texas Tech
Sugar Bowl - #4 Alabama vs #5 USC

January 1, 2009

Orange Bowl - Winner Peach Bowl vs Winner Fiesta Bowl
Rose Bowl - Winner Cotton Bowl vs Winner Sugar Bowl

January 8, 2009

BCS Championship - Winner Orange Bowl vs Winner Rose Bowl

This would keep Bowl Games around plus have a playoff...
