Don't piss on Hartford . . . They supported a perrenial below average team from way back in the day (early 70's when the team moved from Boston to Hartford during the WHA days). Folks drove 30 mins. up to Springfield to watch the Whalers play back in 1978-80 while the Civic Center was being rebuilt after the roof collapsed after a blizzard back in Jan. 1978 (I remember that growing up as a kid in New Haven :) !!!).

Yes, in a perfect world Hartford would be celebrating right now vs. Raleigh. I think if someone with deep pockets who lived in CT (and their are billionaires who live in the state) had bought the team back in the early 90's before Karmanos did, I think the Whalers would be celebrating the Cup win right now vs. the Canes. I'm sure there are a handful of Whaler fans celebrating with us down in Carolina tonight.

when they were parading the Cup around the ice, I saw one guy wearing a Whalers jersey, on the ice right next to the red carpet. Cool.

Yep, when Bettman said, "Peter Karmanos had a dream that hockey would work in Carolina. Well, he was right!" I could only think of Hartford. I really feel shitty for them.

It's simply too small to support a team.
