I would assume we wanted a big bruiser like Stephen Davis when we drafted Shelton. If he is a finese runner in a big man's body then how did we miss that when scouting him? We put a fairly high pick into him and you would think we woudl know what we were getting. Running too high is a trait that a guy is gonna show in college.

didn't show up in that Louisville offense, because a lot of the power runs aren't there; and as usual, scouts got enamored with good open field running in such a big body.
He can deliver a hit in the open field, has a good stiff arm, so it's not like he can't hit or lower a shoulder, I just don't know if he can run low until he gets 5 yards past the LOS. It's not an uncommon problem.

You would think that a back could learn to run low. Just lower yourself, and run. Not like we're talking about a Phythagorean Theorum lesson here. Just lower yourself while running around with a ball in your arms. :banginghe

there's an amount of instinct involved, and natural running style. But yeah, you'd figure by this level...
Most backs run more upright in the open field, so there's an amount of conscious effort.

It sounds a lot like the things they say about Ron Dayne. If we draft a back this year it needs to be a guy who can run hard between the tackles and has shown that ability for sure in college.

Yea, I suppose instincts matter more than anything in this case. I would like to have someone built a little lower to the ground. Someone who can cut, and hit a home run, but not afraid to dish out pain.

    Kinda like this guy.
