Jon Gruden hired as Bucs’ coach

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden, thought to be out of the running, was hired Monday as coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Bucs said that Gruden had received a five-year deal. Terms were not disclosed.
The 38-year-old Gruden, the NFL’s youngest head coach, has a 40-28 record in four seasons as the Raiders’ coach. He led the team to the AFC title game a year ago, and the Raiders lost this year in a second-round game to eventual Super Bowl champion New England after blowing a 10-point lead in the final quarter.
Gruden replaces Tony Dungy, who was fired Jan. 14.
After that, the Bucs had been rejected by Bill Parcells, then failed to reach agreement with the Raiders on a deal for Gruden, whose contract with Oakland doesn’t expire until the end of next season.
Last weekend, they talked to San Francisco coach Steve Mariucci about the coach and general manager job, but were unable to reach agreement. Mariucci sought a seven-year, $42 million package.
The Bucs said the compensation for Gruden would be announced Wednesday, when the new coach will be introduced in Tampa.

Cool, he is a great coach. Maybe a change of scenery will get his team over the hump. Just hope the same thing doesnt happen to him that happened to Dungy!!!!

Yes I know... but Gruden also had another year on his contract with Oakland... things that make you go hmmm.

I think that Lewis has been overlooked. He would make a top notch head coach. He would fit in good at Oakland.
