#1 You must hate going home with T3 at work.

#2 My cable is faster then the DSL at work. Also faster then my brother's DSL.

My browsing speed is the same as couz's but my download and uplaod are much slower. (cheaper too):D At this moment speed411 has me at 886kbps, phl.speakeasy.net has me 708 down and 132 up. If your computer literate try www.dslreports.com works for cable too. It will help you do a little tweaking on your own.

I thought that Cable was faster til we had business DSL installed at work. I can get download speeds of 1.5 MB/sec whereas at home, the fastest I've gotten was around 600 kb/sec. Not sure if those speeds were just spurts that caused the monitoring program to say they were downloading that fast, or if they were just that fast. But the DSL seems to be more consistent.

My understanding is that cable has a variable bandwidth wheras DSL is constant. Cable has the potential to be much faster than DSL, but since the bandwidth depends on how many users are online, sometimes it's faster, sometimes it's not.

Just what I heard from some guy.

Cable speed epends on a few things... one like Mark said is number of users online and 2 on how close a user is to the cable companies node... currently because of my location I get over 2 Megabits Upload and Download on a regular basis... and DSL can't really touch that... also Cable has a MUCH, MUCH higher upload speed than DSL does... really the advantages of Cable vs DSL vary... stability wise DSL will give a better constant speed while Cable can deliver a higher speed(depending on its conditions)

This is correct. DSL ensures a dedicated data rate, while cable modem systems are the equivalent of large LANs - the more activity from other users, the less performance you might encounter.

Cable's good for me. No need to spend another $120 a year.

I got RR and it has never been down other than planned maintenance. I live about a 1/2 mile from Time Warner cable and that may help my speed.
It downloads stuff bout as fast as I can watch it.:)
