Super XGA

Help!!

What makes it super? Is it worth $50.00 over regular XGA?

edit: Ok, looked into it and found out it means 524,288 more pixels...probably worth $50

Now I have to decide on the upgraded video card...I don't use it for gaming or special grafix applications, but I do plan to watch movies on it...$70 to go from 16 to 32 mb...any thoughts from you people who know about this stuff?

 

the mb rating is probably texture memory that's really only an issue for 3D applications (games namely).

video is way lower resolution than what you'll be using on your PC, so pretty much any card would be fine. i'm a little unclear whether or not hardware DVD decoding is good or not -- seems it used to be a feature, but isn't touted as much anymore.

what card are you looking at? stick with ATI or NVIDIA -- they're pretty much the two players right now.

if you're not planning on doing 3D 16mb should be enough. BUT the Mb ratings do tend to indicate overall functionality in a certain regard. I think the comptuer makers know this and use shorthand to describe the more esoteric stuff (16mb = low end, 32mb = medium end, 64mb = high end) rather than getting into specs nobody could understand.

which cards are you comparing specifically?

 

I got the ATI 32mb but I do 2dplus and 3d drawings for work with my machine. I also use it in conjunction with the television via the S-jack port and audio out to watch dvds and movies I hawked off Kazaa. It's really swell.

But Nut's right. If you don't plan on playing any high end games or 3d drawing type stuff, the 16mb one should be more than enough for you.
