    2. Garrard to Jimmy Smith - possible trend here? - 7 of David Garrard's 12 passes last week at Arizona went to Jimmy Smith (58.3%). 70 of his 115 passing yards also went to Smith (60.8%)

Jimmy Smith stats with Garrard at QB

    2004 week 10 - DET 7 rec, 109 yd, 1 TD (14 targets)
    2004 week 11 - TEN 2 rec, 29 yd (7 targets)
    2003 week 8 - TEN 3 rec, 60 yd, 1 TD (9 targets) Garrard had 12 total pass att.
    2002 week 6 - TEN 4 rec, 49 yd (6 targets) Garrard had 7 total pass att.
    2002 week 16 - TEN 3 rec, 15 yd, 1 TD (6 targets) Garrard had 13 total pass att.

In all of David Garrard's starts his completion percentage to Jimmy Smith is 34.7% 2 of his 4 career TD passes have gone to Jimmy as well. [IMG]

    3. Interesting stat of the week - The average length of a Chad Johnson TD this year is 39.8 yards. [IMG]

    4. Useless stat tidbit - Steve Smith has yet to score a TD in the 3rd quarter this season

    Steve Smith scoring by quarter:

    1st qtr: 1 TD
    2nd qtr: 5 TD
    3rd qtr: 0 TD
    4th qtr: 3 TD

    5. Seattle offense - outside of Shaun Alexander - Quietly, Joe Jurevicius has 7 of Hasselbeck's 14 TD passes. [IMG]

    6. QB's and completions

    * Jake Delhomme has only 3 games with 20 completions or more
    * Carson Palmer has had only 2 games in which he has not had at least 20 completions
    * Kurt Warner has not had less than 27 completions in any game he started this year [IMG]
    * 24 NFL QB's have more completions than Ben Roethlisberger has attempts [IMG] (granted he missed a few games, but Wow!)

    7. Barber on the rise? - Tiki Barber has 17 recs in his last 4 games. 24 of his 31 recs are in his last 6 games.

    8. Finally?? - Reuben Droughns needs 59 yards to become the first Browns RB with 1000 yards since the combo of Ernest Byner and Kevin Mack did it in 1985. That's crazy considering the Browns have not had one lone RB average just 62.5 yards per game in 21 years! [IMG]

    9. Plummer 1st half vs. 2nd half - Jake Plummer has a 108.4 QB rating in the 1st half, but a 73.5 rating in the 2nd half.

    10. Ouch - This could be the reason why the Packers have only 2 wins - Brett Favre has thrown eight 4th quarter interceptions. [IMG]

    11. Hmmmm - interesting - 7 of Kerry Collins 15 TD passes have come in the 4th quarter.

    More 4th quarter stats:

    * Donovan McNabb has 16 TD passes on the year, but only 1 in the 4th quarter.
    * Drew Brees has 18 TD passes, but only 2 in the 4th quarter.
    * Marvin Harrison and Larry Fitzgerald lead the NFL with 4 TD in the 4th quarter.

    12. Passing yards lost by penalty [IMG]

    Carson Palmer 221
    Eli Manning 210
    Trent Green 159
    Brett Favre 135
    Jake Delhomme 126
    Mark Brunell 118
    Drew Bledsoe 110
    Kerry Collins 106

    13. Wow - impressive - Carson Palmer has a 76.2% completion percentage on 1st and 10.

    14. Just pass all the time, Peyton - 44% of the time Peyton Manning attempts a pass - it's a first down. (NFL leader)

    15. When it's 3rd and long - who do you want as your QB? I found a stat where David Carr is better than Carson Palmer [IMG]

% of first downs on pass attempts of 3rd and 8 or greater

    49% Brunell
    40% Vick
    38.9% Brees
    35.9% P. Manning
    35.7% Griese
    35.3% Bledsoe
    34.7% Brooks
    33.3% Favre
    33.3% E. Manning
    33.3% Warner
    .
    .
    .
    28.9% David Carr
    28.3% Carson Palmer [IMG] [IMG]

    16. Interesting stat re: Chad Johnson - Chad Johnson leads the NFL in receptions for a first down with 53. 80% of the time Chad catches a pass, it's for a first down.

    17. More good info on Jimmy Smith

First down receptions on 3rd and 7 or greater

    Jimmy Smith 10
    Ernest Wilford 3
    Matt Jones 3

Smith, by the way is tied with Santana Moss for the NFL lead in first down receptions with 3rd and 7 or more to go.

    18. Fred Taylor is a better RB in the first half of games

    1st half ypc: 5.0
    2nd half ypc: 3.4
    carries 1-10: 4.8
    carries 11-20: 4.2

    19. Another look at the amazing Neil Rackers...

    Total points

    120 S. Alexander
    114 Tomlinson
    110 Rackers
    100 J. Feely [IMG]
    94 Tynes
    89 S. Graham
    85 Vanderjagt
    83 Wilkins
    83 Kaeding
    83 Elam

    20. Players with 10+ targets in week 12 (consecutive weeks of 10+ targets in parenthesis)

    17 A. Johnson (2)
    16 Holt (2)
    16 Boldin (2)
    15 Shockey TE
14 Burress (3) Had only 2 games with less than 10 targets - both games he had 9
    13 J. Smith
    13 Jurevicius
    12 Chambers
    12 Branch
    12 Houshmandzadeh
    11 Lloyd (2)
    11 Crumpler TE
    10 Moulds
    10 Keyshawn
    10 Toomer
    10 Engram (3)
    10 E. Parker
    10 Battle
    10 Jordan RB

Targets? I'm not sure what that is, do you mean they were thrown to as targets? Targetted?

Also, very interesting stats, and good work.

Altho, those QBs who have bunches of 1st, 2nd, and/or 3rd TD quarter passes, don't need any 4th qtr TD passes, because in most games they have a decent lead by the 3rd and 4th qtr and their respective teams wil be running a lot in the 4th.

That's Favre's problem in the fourths. He's pressing to make a play, desperately, slinging the ball downfield- becuase they are losing in the 4th.

Interseting stats, yes, cool too. But one can make any argument with them either way one would like, just by picking and choosing bits and pieces- without the other relationships and cause and effect thereof.

He didn't come up with that information, he's just copying and pasting it. I do wish he would have included the source.
This is a gross misconception. Stats, just like quotes, can be manipulated and people who don't know any better can be fooled into thinking something that isn't true. But the more basic and transparent your stats are, the more useful things they tell you. The more familiarity you have the statistics, the better you're able to understand exactly what they say and what they don't, just as someone more familiar with football can interpret a coach's quotes for instance.
