    are you sure that you're using a straight-through cable from the router to your PC and not a crossover cable?

    Is the firewall enabled on the router?? If it is TEMPORARILY disable it and see if you can connect with it down... could be you have to set manual rights on the router's firewall... I had to do that with my new wireless router. It said I was totally disconnected when I enabled it with it set to all default options.

    It works. Instead of the setting "obtain ip automatically" it had to be set to PPPoe. Once I saw that, it hit me. I don't like the fact that I can't turn off the internet when I feel like it. I did set it up to shut off the internet after 15 minutes idle.
