From espn Insider: Nothing new but
I have mentioned in this column a few players whom I would love to see with another team. Panthers WR Steve Smith deserves to be at the top of that list. Can you imagine how productive and disruptive he would be on a team like Indianapolis, New Orleans or Philadelphia? He is a tremendous all-around player who will do everything possible to help his team win, including throwing his body around as a run-blocker. But I counted four times in the first half when QB Jake Delhomme flat-out missed Smith when he was open. Two of those could have gone for long touchdowns if Delhomme had at least given Smith an opportunity to make a play on the ball deep downfield. Then, on Carolina's opening drive in the second half, Delhomme got rattled when he didn't snap the ball promptly when the Dolphins had a personnel mix-up and underthrew a ball to Smith that was intercepted. The two did connect on a 27-yard TD in the fourth quarter that was a thing of beauty -- both the throw and the leaping catch -- but there was more to be had here, especially with all the man coverage Miami was playing.

I'd just like to see him with another quarterback. I'm not sure how many years he has left, but he's still beating defenders and drawing coverage.

He seems to want out. As a fan, it's discouraging that alot of our top playmakers have begged for the door - peppers, jenkins, now smitty.

I don't blame him. Peppers i kinda did, jenx i did, smitty deserves better. Which blows.

People don't know shit about the rules. You have to allow teams to get set in that situation. Either way, it was a bad throw and a bad decision, because a safety was sitting right on top of it.

Actually, when you really think about it, most of the great Delhomme-to-Smith connections have been Jake throwing it up and Smitty making a circus catch. Only exception might be the TD against St. Louis. Put Smith in New Orleans, and he would be a God.

I do think he's a tremdous player but he's pretty cranky about doing things he doesn't want to.

Am I missing something? I don't remember Smitty saying he wants out.
