it's not adjusting, when we change our game philosophy to fit the opposing offense?

    Problems, as I see it:

    1) Jake not playing well
    2) Coverage has sucked, and tackling after the catch has been criminally bad
    3) No pressure, Peppers should be dominant, and just hasn't been, all excuses aside
    4) Inability to run. Actually this might be the #1 problem, as the other problems, with the exception of tackling, could be better if we ran effectively.

I really thought the addition of Wahle would help the run game, but so far, no dice. I disagree with Mags a bit, I really think Davis and Foster's roles should be reversed, with Foster getting 20 touches or so a game, and Davis spelling him, especially in goalline situations where he seems to be a different back.

I'm starting to realize what a huge part of the pass rushing scheme Mark Fields is, and how sorely he's missed. Without him, the rush takes a definite step backward, and one that cannot be replaced. We just don't have the bodies on the roster. Even with Jenkins out, they can plug in Carstens and get some of the run-stopping ability back. But without Fields, an entire part of the blitz package just disappears.

Neither Carstens or Moorehead bring anything in terms of collapsing the pocket during passes, so I still think that's the biggest factor, but I agree that it's no coincidence how we've been much worse in rushing the passer during years without Fields than with him.

Stop dropping Peppers into coverage. Stop asking him to do so many other things and let him just go after the QB. There is no way a DL with Peppers, Rucker, Wallace and Buckner should not be able to generate some pass rush....

Agree 100% and have said this many times before. Sure, Jenkins hurts. Hes not there to rush the passer, and Moorehead is only ok there, and Carstens is strictly a run stuffer, and turning out to be a fine one at that. But Fields was an exceptional blitzer, and could come off the edge like few can. He was also a fierce tackler. Watching him last year bully Vick, and turn the tides of that game even though we lost with his physical game, was a sweet thing.

Fields was good for us. Does that make the rest ok, and give us an excuse? No. But losing Fields was huge.

    agreed.

We can only go with what we have. we do, technically, have up to 4 starters "out", though I can't call Branch outright.

The thing is, though, our other DTs aren't getting it done, and I don't know that I've even seen that good of play out of Buckner in the last 3, maybe 4 weeks.
