How did this thread explode to 8 pages in 6 hours? Thanks for getting back to the question PP . . .
IMO that 8 mil a year average is too steep and no one will go that high. Considering his age and the fact that all but a few of his years have been much closer to the 3 mil range than 8.

Averages are over the contract life, not the base. It's semantic, but true.

it all counts against a teams cap though right? It's got to, otherwise every player would be paid the league minimum in yearly salary with the lopsided bulk of the contract in bonus money

Definitely. And whenever media, agents, etc talk about a contract average, it includes everything.

you were the one giving me hell for suggesting that Sauerbrun is luxury and not a neccessity, you've also pushed for a return man other than Smith

Raiders | Porter Contract Update - from www.KFFL.com
    Fri, 25 Feb 2005 20:33:06 -0800

Updating previous reports, Associated Press reports Oakland Raiders WR Jerry Porter's new four-year deal with the team is worth roughly $20 million. It can be voided after three years, basically making it a three-year, $15 million deal. Of the contract, $8 million has been guaranteed.

I hope someone sells their soul for Moose. Moose will get a great payday and some team will kill their cap regardless of how well Moose performs. Moose wins and the other team pays dearly.
