    Panthers announce price hikes

At a time when the team's purging salary, the Carolina Panthers are asking ticket holders for more of theirs.

The Panthers said Friday that they'd raise ticket prices between $1 and $9 per seat. A team spokesman said roughly half the tickets in the stadium would go up between $1 and $3 each.

It's the eighth time in the last 11 years they've raised prices, after an early trend toward holding costs steady.

The Panthers kept prices constant the first five years of the franchise's existence, but since then have hiked ticket costs each year besides 2003, 2007 and 2009.

The Panthers are quick to remind that they're still among the cheapest tickets in the league, in the bottom half. They'll also point out that the other two teams with privately funded stadiums (Washington and New England) are among the league's most expensive tickets.

The team has also announced some new payment options, as PSL owners can break up their season-ticket renewals into three equal payments, due in April, May and June.

Has anybody figured out how much their tix went up? I figured mine went up $5 a piece. I would bet the lux box seats were the ones that went up the $9. I don't get why ticket prices went up if they purged salaries and we don't have Peppers' salary hanging over our heads. It sounds to me that the Panthers are being greedy bastards. *sigh*

I have 2 tickets that were "B". They go for 90 or 91 a piece. i'm guessing I'll be getting a 4-5 dollar increase. Maybe the cocksuckers will let me buy a gameday pin ahead of time now?

This isn't about rebuilding, it's about preparing for a lockout. With the potential for no revenue in 2011, every team will have to pare its expenses as much as possible. You can either start this year--that's why this year is uncapped, to give teams an extra year to prepare and transition--or you can wait until next year. If you wait until next year, like the Bears, it's a much more wrenching process. But that's why Julius essentially got a one-year deal. If there's no new CBA, he will be gone after 2010 along with a lot of other highly-paid veterans, not because the owners want to lose them but because the owners won't pay them to hold out. By starting this year and focusing on retaining young, low-cost players, the Panthers have a chance of coming out of 2011 with enough of a team intact that they can build on it going forward under the new agreement.

Considering the economy a $1-$9 ticket increase every other year, isn't unreasonable.

I really want to see Moose back. I know he's older, but he's a great blocker and I just feel better about "us" with him there as a player/coach sort of person. I'm hoping he'll be happy dropping to a 3rd receiver or such and the team will want him back. Less playing time could give him another good season or two.
