I've had it. I had to run about a 1/2 block in the pouring rain today to a patients house and it about killed me. I'm gonna quit smoking. This not breathing well stuff has gotta stop. To those that have quit, HOW did you do it? Zyban, the patch, cold turkey? How? I have smoked since I was 24 and only tried to quit once and that was last winter. I made it 21 days on Zyban and the patch. My fatal mistake was thinking I could 'socially smoke' when I went out with friends that smoked. I also have some more motivation; Rich said if I make it a month, he will try to quit too. I have set my target date as October 7th. My class reunion will be over and I am taking that week off and having some minor surgery; an excellent time to stop. SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!

Just smoke when you drink. That's what I do. I think cigarettes stink when I'm sober. I smoke about 2 packs a month.

But once you have been a smoker, you can NEVER go back to being a social smoker. It's like cocaine. If you have ever been addicted, you can't go back to being a recreational user.

I don't think so. I smoked 2 packs a day for about 10 years. Just got tired of it. Now the only time I crave a smoke is when I drink. Never smoke any other time.

I'm with Silver. I smoked for 10 years also and still have a smoke every once in a while with beer. It can be done.

i dont smoke. never have. never will. i used to dip copenhagen though. i got scared when i saw my gum reeceeding at my front tooth. i quit cold turkey -- and i was plowing through a can every couple of days. death can scare you like that.

i always figured that if smokers could see some form of physical change in their body -- like the blackening lung -- that more would suddenly find the willpower to quit.
