Okay - since I downloaded the digital camera programmes and whatnot - I've noticed that sometimes - no, most of the time, when I start up online, my computer will `freeze' and go on a complete go slow for a wee while. Nine times out of ten, I have to turn it off at the wall (even ctrl+alt+delete doesn't work to shut it down) - and I'm getting highly pissed with it. Can anyone tell me why it's doing this - and what I can do to stop it? I've just defragged the computer, but I'm still having these troubles - and occasions where I can't get a good connection with my server - but I suspect that could be my provider's problem?
Any advice gratefully received - so long as it's written in English...i.e for a clueless computer chica like me to figure it out! :D

Have you tried removing the camera software? do you have an internal modem or are you using a usb modem? are you using the camera on usb for serial? You're moving to the beach why the hell are you spending so much time on the internet anyway? :)

You got some good questions there VOR! :) Right - I'm frankly too scared to remove the camera software as it took me literally days to get it working in the first place! I'm using an external 56K modem, and I have a USB connection thingy for the camera. And yes, when I get to my new beach house - I'm going to be running around for weeks trying to straighten everything out - but with the isolation and all - I still wanna use this baby! :D

is the external modem usb also or is it serial? Could be that your camera and modem are conflicting. If you've got an older slower computer, you may simply have to learn to live with the problems until you can upgrade to something faster. If you are using a celeron type cpu and are sticking all sorts of multimedia things on it you're going to have to learn to live with the problems. If you're using a version of USB is not the latest, you may try adding a usb card to up grade your computer. Not much help am I :)

Okay - VOR lovey, you lost me on the first question. How can I find this out? I'm going to work on the rest of what you said, when I work out what it all means. I think you're definately onto something - and if it gets worse, I think I'll take it into a shop and have them play with it. I may go through and delete any programmes that I don't use - there are games and things on here that I've never (and will never) play. Would that help?

Thank you for answering VOR - much appreciated. ;)

If your modem plugs into a serial port on your computer, it's a serial modem, or if it plugs into a usb port, its usb. (basically is are the modem and camera cable plugged into the same kind of port). You really dont need to delete the programs they pretty much lay dormant till you call them. Seems since you started having problems since you put the camera software on, that the modem and the camera are what is causing the problems.

With USB technology you should be able to unplug the camera ports when your not using them. Of course the software for the camera may still conflict with the modem if that indeed is what is happening. You could also check the manfacturer's websites for both the modem and camera and make sure you have the latest software/driver.

VOR, I think it's a serial modem. I've had a wee poke around at the back and it doesn't look like a USB port (trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about here!). I'm going to try reinstalling the software when I finally move into my new house - I figure that if I really screw it up, then no one will hear me yelling obscenities at my new location. ;) Thank you again VOR - you're very kind to point me in the right direction with the camera / modem thing. :)

Thanks too Couz - I'll check out the website on the instruction manual and do some ferretting and unplug the cables when I come online and when I'm not using the camera. Good thinking Tonto! :D It's worth a shot!
