So, I was the douche that decided to call into their morning show with Peter King this monring. Surpirsingly, got through on the first call, and was put on immediately.

    Asked Peter two specific questions:

    1. The obvious....who does he see as the best 2-3 fits as the next head coach for the Panthers?

    2. Was Richardson's spending freeze in the spring/summer a direct result of not wanting to invest money in players to fit a lame-duck's scheme, or was it a bigger-picture, moral statement to set an example for the owners.

    His answers (paraphrased):

    1. King would say there are two candidates that make the most sense, from what he knows. Brian Schottenheimer and Jim Harbaugh. With Schott, he said that there is a ton of criticism from the NY media and fans alike regarding his playcalling, but King is a huge advocate--says as a head coach, he would be had for a low price, and could possibly be a better administrator and leadership figure than a playcaller. With regards to Harbaugh, he really likes this angle--pointed out the five teams that are currently in the running for the #1 pick. Says out of all of the 1-2 win teams, Carolina is most likely to press for a QB selection. Again, he says from what he knows about things, Jerry would definitely consider dipping into the college ranks, and with Harbaugh's limited time with the organization, plus he coaches who very well may be the first QB selected in next year's draft, it would make all the sense in the world to go that route. So, who knows--King is not always right, but I have a feeling he's slightly more connected to the situation than any of us are.

    2. King did not get into the specifics about why Jerry spent less, but he pointed out that JR could not advocate paying one player (Peppers) a weekly paycheck of $10 million, particularly considering his head coach makes $4 million less than that annually. He also pointed out that, in his opinion, JR is going to do everything he can to win, post-Fox, but his philosophy is to put an emphasis on balancing the payroll to build a complete football team. From what he said, I took that as meaning JR is looking ahead to 2011 fiscal, and not trying to make a statement to the league, players and other owners.

It's a fun show--the whole channel is worth listening to, if you have satellite (channel 124 on Sirius). Pat Kirwan, who has been just about everywhere on the football map (with mixed results) does a great show from 3p-7p. If you have this channel, check it out.

That may be the best sports channel on sirius and, you're right, PK's show is real good. Not for the casual footbal fan, but good stuff.

the only part I disagree with is the idea that Carolina is definitely in the hunt for a young QB. Righting this ship will take an immediate veteran presence, regardless of what's done behind that, but the guy who drafted our current young guy is going to still be here next year. The Luck/Harbaugh thing gets overblown in part because a prideful guy like Harbaugh isn't necessarily going to want to hang his hat on the idea that he lucked into a great QB and hung onto him at all possible costs. Of course, the shine will come off Harbaugh if Luck decides to stay, which he may. It doesn't make Jim a lesser candidate, it just makes him less sexy for people linking the two together.

And that's just a matter of being overly excitable.

Schottenheimer's O is similar enough to ours that it might be a selling point - and fair enough on his statement about administration. The key, then, is not one great coordinator hire, but two. BS has been around, so he has some connections. He believes in running the ball, he believes in building QBs, he always has that check-and-balance thing with his dad, as long as it didn't become a problem with leadership.

Fair enough. Problem with CC is he's a template guy. Took every template from loud, angry political talk radio and applied it to a sports show. As a guy (lol) who actually did a pathetic sports talk show in Clemson for a while, I am a bit of a student of talk radio.

Lesson #1: don't tell others what shows suck. To each their own.

I have a select few folks I admire in talk radio, regardless of politics:

    *Opie and Anthony
    *Steve Czaban
    *Alex Bennett
    *Don Imus
    *Kirwin/Ryan on Sirius NFL
    *Bob and Tom (Indy)

Colin is a lot like Limbaugh, Hannity......sheds a ton of heat, very little light. The aforementioned shows are essentially a bunch of laid back guys shooting the shit. No radio voices, or bullshit topical angles.

Cannot stand Cowherd, I hope he gets too big for radio, or fucks up and loses his gig; either way I don't have to listen to him anymore.
