I keep reading EVERYWHERE that Seattle won't pay him really big money becaue they think he's soft. And he talks publicly about where he would like to play next year when his team is in the middle of a playoff race. Several years ago they were having trouble with him because he was looking for a big run every play, and ended up losing yards on many plays where he could have got 5. Sounds like a selfish player to me. I smell trouble with him.

Shaun Alexander ran a bit of a reverse yesterday.

During a telephone interview Wednesday with reporters who cover the Dolphins, the Seahawks' opponent Sunday at Qwest Field, Seattle's prolific running back was asked about playing in Miami next season.

Alexander, scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March, said, "My wife and I talked before the season started about possible trades and things like that. Florida is one of her favorite states to visit, so it's possible. It's a business, so we'll do what's best for our family and future. If it happens to be Miami, it'll be exciting."

After practice yesterday, however, Alexander reiterated something he has been saying since training camp.

"This is where I want to be, and everybody knows that," he said.

"So for me, it's really simple. The people upstairs have stuff to do, and let's leave it at that."

Those people would be club president Bob Whitsitt, general manager Bob Ferguson, coach Mike Holmgren and director of player administration Jay Nienkark, the resident salary cap expert.

Alexander is one of 16 Seahawks scheduled to become unrestricted free agents, a group that includes Pro Bowl left tackle Walter Jones, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, cornerback Ken Lucas, defensive end Chike Okeafor and offensive linemen Robbie Tobeck, Chris Gray and Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack.

"They asked me, if the Seahawks didn't sign me back, would I want to go to Miami," Alexander said of the Wednesday interview. "I said, 'Well, you know, there's nothing wrong with beaches.' Or something like that. I was just kind of making (the statement) as the atmosphere type of deal."

I can't believe this thread is two pages.

SA will not be a Panther....EVER!

The thread is pointless, unless you are a Seattle Seahawks fan....because that's where he will be for a long time.

No, he wouldn't ever come here and we most likely wouldn't go for him even if Davis were cut.

If we were going to spend big bucks on ONE POSITION though, shouldn't it be RB for this team?

Initial logic says yeah, but seeing backs come and go in this offense, I'd have to wonder if spending money on a back we'd run into the ground after a couple of years is the right way to go. A back takes a lot of extra hits in this offense.

    no.

Top running backs are in their prime for maybe 3-5 years....they are either earning their stripes for a couple years(Foster) or hanging on to their careers by the skin of their knee (Davis)...SA is right in the middle...we can't afford him and his career will start declining in a couple years....so I wouldn't want to throw that kind of money at him.

that dumbass HC out there has made dumb decisions before...

I'd take Alexander and cut Davis & Foster in a second...then go draft a back-up RB who can do some KR
